The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nascimento fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Gracie gets a takedown into half guard.

Gracie wants to work for an arm triangle but Nascimento is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Nascimento is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Gracie swings around for an armbar but Nascimento sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gracie's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nascimento is trying to control. Gracie wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Nascimento has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Nascimento throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Gracie because Nascimento loaded up on that one.

Nascimento is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Gracie is surviving well by controlling Nascimento's body position as best he can.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nascimento can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gracie is looking to escape.
Gracie bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gracie advances to half guard.
Gracie moves into full mount! Nascimento won't be happy about that!

Gracie has hold of Nascimento's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Nascimento manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
