PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Seppo Sepi (ranked 1574 p4p, 3436 weight class) and Piotr Rasputin (ranked 12 p4p, 102 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Seppo Sepi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Piotr Rasputin!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sepi drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sepi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Sepi wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rasputin, who protects the arm well.
Rasputin keeping his opponent close.
Rasputin sneaks back into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rasputin is looking to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rasputin keeps trying to improve his position.
Rasputin is pressing down on Sepi's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Sepi drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sepi jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rasputin is on top in guard.

Rasputin scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Rasputin has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Canucks Combat Club. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Sepi looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Rasputin is looking to work some ground and pound but Sepi has wrist control.

Sepi throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Sepi really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Sepi looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Sepi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sepi is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Sepi looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rasputin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Rasputin trying to control the position from guard on top but Sepi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Rasputin looking to sit in guard and control but Sepi gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Rasputin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sepi is one step ahead there.
Sepi wants to pass the guard but Rasputin is keeping the position.
Rasputin looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rasputin is looking to sweep but instead, Sepi has passed into half guard.

Rasputin is looking to control Sepi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rasputin avoid being mounted?
Rasputin wants to get back to full guard.

Sepi is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rasputin sees it coming and defends easily.

Sepi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Seppo Sepi dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Sepi lands with a nice body punch.
Sepi shoots for a takedown but Rasputin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Rasputin pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Rasputin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sepi.
Rasputin stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rasputin wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Seppo Sepi. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sepi moves into the clinch.
Rasputin tries to land knees in the clinch but Sepi avoids the damage to the body.
Sepi is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Sepi has hold of one of Rasputin's legs. Rasputin is fighting the takedown attempt but Sepi gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Rasputin is trying to keep Sepi in close.
Sepi pushes down on Rasputin's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Rasputin slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Sepi tries to free his leg and advance position but Rasputin is retaining full guard.

Seppo Sepi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rasputin wants to sweep here but Sepi controlling him for the moment.
Rasputin wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Sepi is now in half guard.
Rasputin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Sepi is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rasputin sees it coming and defends easily.
Rasputin wants to control but Sepi is keeping busy.
Rasputin is looking for a sweep. Sepi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Rasputin makes his way to full guard, as Sepi worked for a kimura.

Sepi has gone for a leg lock! Rasputin slips out almost immediately though and dives into Sepi's guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sepi utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Rasputin content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Sepi has locked up a guillotine! Sepi's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Rasputin is holding on here and Sepi must be using up a lot of energy. Rasputin has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Sepi gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Seppo Sepi!
Seppo Sepi decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
