PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bofur Widenose (ranked 1864 p4p, 5223 weight class) and Anders Thorsen (ranked 288 p4p, 649 weight class). Anders Thorsen acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bofur Widenose!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anders Thorsen!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thorsen shoots in looking for a takedown. Widenose tries to sprawl out of it but Thorsen keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Widenose manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Thorsen throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Widenose tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Thorsen is in Widenose's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Thorsen working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Widenose might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Thorsen throwing strikes from guard but Widenose blocks nicely.
Widenose utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Thorsen is looking to work some ground and pound but Widenose has wrist control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Widenose bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Thorsen's guard.

Widenose stays in close to Thorsen's body and controls the position.
Thorsen controls Widenose momentarily but Widenose frees himself.

Widenose working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Widenose stands and throws Thorsen's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Widenose is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Thorsen is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Widenose tries for a kimura but Thorsen is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Widenose swings around for an armbar but Thorsen sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Widenose's guard.
Thorsen wants to control from the top but Widenose keeps moving.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Thorsen throws a strike but Widenose rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Thorsen is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Widenose loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Widenose forces his way into half guard.
We've been hearing that Widenose has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Thorsen can do anything to dispel that myth.
Thorsen is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Widenose's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Widenose's back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Widenose manages to reverse the position and now he's in Thorsen's guard. Nice work there by Widenose.
Widenose postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Thorsen seems keen to control Widenose's posture.
Widenose advances to half guard.

Widenose wants to take a breather but Thorsen is having none of it.
Widenose is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Thorsen reverses the position - he's now on top in Widenose's guard.
Widenose tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Thorsen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Widenose has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Thorsen has managed to get both his arms back between Widenose's legs - danger averted.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Thorsen lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Widenose working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Thorsen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Thorsen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bofur Widenose will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!

Thorsen fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Thorsen is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Widenose throws a strike aimed at the side of Thorsen's head but Thorsen avoids it well.
Widenose lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Thorsen has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Widenose connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Thorsen some visible discomfort.

Both fighters take a look at the clock.

Widenose throws a strike aimed at the side of Thorsen's head but Thorsen avoids it well.

Widenose is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Thorsen has escaped the position, nice work there.
Widenose tries to move to mount but Thorsen blocks the move with his legs.

Widenose tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Widenose has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Widenose creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Thorsen sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Widenose lands a decent elbow from side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Widenose in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Thorsen is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Bofur Widenose!
A relieved looking Bofur Widenose thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
