PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Josh Sims (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rampa The Devastaor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Sims!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rampa The Devastaor!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Jonathan Paton and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sims throws a body punch but The Devastaor moves out of range.
The Devastaor moves in looking to clinch but Sims pushes him off.
Sims takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

The Devastaor darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

The Devastaor stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Sims to get to his feet.
Sims fails to land the takedown.
Sims wants to clinch up but The Devastaor keeps it at a distance.
The Devastaor uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sims.
The Devastaor shoots in but Sims avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The Devastaor throws a series of punches but Sims avoids them all with ease.
The Devastaor displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Sims slips a jab and a cross from The Devastaor.
The Devastaor circles away from the clinch attempt

and The Devastaor counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Sims's guard now.
Sims seems keen to control The Devastaor's posture.
The Devastaor wants to stand but Sims is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The Devastaor trying to control but Sims is working from the bottom.
Sims is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sims utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Sims not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Sims had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. The Devastaor is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Sims Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take The Devastaor's back instead.

Sims biding his time, controlling The Devastaor.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The Devastaor trying to control the hands but Sims won't let him.
Sims controls the action.
Sims misses with a punch to the head.

The Devastaor is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Sims gets his way!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rampa The Devastaor dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sims throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
The Devastaor throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
The Devastaor misses with a takedown attempt - Sims sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sims throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
The Devastaor swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Sims counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Sims.
Sims slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The Devastaor looking to control but Sims passes into half guard.
The Devastaor is breathing heavily.

Sims slows the pace down in half guard.
Sims trying to control the action but The Devastaor is working from the bottom.

Sims is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. The Devastaor doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sims.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Sims is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if The Devastaor can do anything to dispel that myth.
Sims content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The Devastaor is trying to stand up here but Sims is controlling him well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sims wants to control but The Devastaor is keeping him busy.
The Devastaor has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sims is working away from the top position though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Sims throws the left hand but The Devastaor avoids the punch easily.
The Devastaor misses with a wild combination.
Sims tries to clinch up but The Devastaor circles away and keeps his distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Nice takedown defense from Sims. No joy for The Devastaor on that attempt.
Sims wants to clinch up but The Devastaor keeps it at a distance.
The Devastaor misses with the combination.
Sims is looking to clinch but The Devastaor is avoiding it.

Sims drives through and clinches with The Devastaor against the cage.
The Devastaor tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Josh Sims has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rampa The Devastaor.
The Devastaor is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Sims gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Sims gets control of The Devastaor's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sims will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Sims bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in The Devastaor's guard.
Sims slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Sims dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Sims rushes The Devastaor and presses him up against the cage.
The Devastaor jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sims walks away with a smile on his face. The Devastaor gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Sims swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Sims moves in looking to clinch but The Devastaor pushes him off.
The Devastaor misses with a combination

and Sims counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Sims.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A knee to the head by Sims.
Sims tries to score a body lock takedown but The Devastaor shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
The Devastaor wants to break free but Sims has control.
The Devastaor takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The Devastaor fails to pull guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sims using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
The Devastaor fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Josh Sims has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rampa The Devastaor.
The Devastaor has had enough of the clinch but Sims keeps him there for the moment.

Sims jumps guard and drags The Devastaor to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The Devastaor wants to stand and escape but instead Sims has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Sims sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Sims slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Sims is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Sims wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by The Devastaor, who protects the arm well.

The Devastaor tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Sims presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Sims content just to control the position here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The Devastaor is trying to reverse the position but instead Sims has taken his back - oops!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sims is riding his opponent, not letting The Devastaor buck him off.

Sims is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged The Devastaor with him. The Devastaor is trying to defend but Sims has an arm under the chin now! The Devastaor grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Josh Sims!
