PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tai Wo (ranked 4697 p4p, 4784 weight class) and Nate Noitez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nate Noitez!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Sandra Marshall and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Noitez lands with a good body shot.
Wo moves forwards but Noitez connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Noitez scores with a sloppy right hand. Wo should have avoided that one.
Wo shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Noitez sprawls well. Noitez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Wo gets slowly back to his feet.
Wo moves in looking to clinch but Noitez pushes him off.
Wo tries a head kick but it misses.
Nice body punch from Noitez.
Wo tries to clinch but Noitez is having none of it.
A nice side step and Noitez releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Noitez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Noitez wants it to stay on the feet.

and Noitez counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Wo looks to score with a jab to the body but Noitez is just out of range.

and Noitez counters with a nice uppercut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tai Wo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Noitez scores with a one two! Wo had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Noitez throws a series of punches but Wo avoids them all with ease.
Wo gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

and Noitez connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Wo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Noitez defends it nicely.

Noitez gets through Wo's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Wo fails to pull guard.
Noitez lands a nice shot to the body.
Wo tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Noitez smiles and moves away.

and Wo counters by moving into the clinch.
Wo wants a takedown.
Wo is breathing heavily.
Noitez throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Wos head.

Noitez prevents the takedown attempt.
Noitez working some nice short punches in the clinch.

Noitez is looking to break free of the clinch but Wo has double underhooks.

Wo is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Noitez gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wo keeps control of Noitez as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Noitez looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Wo tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Noitez just stands there and leans against the cage.
Noitez is struggling to control the position.

Nate Noitez dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Wo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Noitez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wo somewhat.

Wo closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Noitez did well to prevent Wo getting side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Noitez can do anything to dispel that myth.

Noitez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Noitez is looking to control Wo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Noitez avoid being mounted?

Noitez is controlling Wo's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Wo wants to pass to mount but Noitez is defending the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Noitez actively working from the bottom here.
Noitez has his hands clasped together around Wo's back. He's all about the action.
Wo tries to stand and escape but Noitez is controlling the position.

Noitez lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Wo dodges the punch combination from Noitez.

and Noitez counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Noitez connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Tai Wo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Wo lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Noitez has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Noitez and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Noitez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Wo throws a front kick aimed at Noitez's knee but Noitez avoids it well.
Nate Noitez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Wo takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Noitez is breathing heavily.
Wo with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Noitez to score with a decent uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wo takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Wo dives in for a single leg takedown but Noitez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Wo has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Noitez is trying to keep an underhook but Wo manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Noitez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Nate Noitez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Noitez works the jab nicely.
Wo looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Wo shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Noitez napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Wo is looking to take a break and control but Noitez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Noitez suckers Wo into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Noitez is now in Wo's guard!

Wo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Noitez is one step ahead there.
Noitez controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Wo working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Noitez has passed into half guard!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Noitez is working away from the top position though.

Noitez is looking for a kimura but Wo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Noitez to get the leverage.
Noitez slips a nice elbow through Wo's hands, connecting with Wo's forehead.
Wo wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Noitez controlling the pace.
Noitez throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Wo throws a right and a left that both miss.
Noitez throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Noitez feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Wos jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Noitez scores with a one two! Wo had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Noitez scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Noitez lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Wo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Noitez tries to avoid it but Wo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Noitez to the ground. Noitez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Noitez lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Nate Noitez seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Wo tries for a takedown but Noitez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Noitez lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Noitez lands a two punch combo.
Noitez lands with an uppercut that bounces Wo off the cage and back into range.
Noitez lands a jab to the head.
Wo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Noitez swivels and escapes.
Nate Noitez is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
