PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Takumi Sagaki (ranked 1089 p4p, 1221 weight class) and Lewis Burwell Puller (ranked 68 p4p, 73 weight class). Sagaki comes into the arena with One Piece - AMV - We Are! (Full Song) blaring out of the sound system. Puller has chosen Hello as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Takumi Sagaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lewis Burwell Puller!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Percy O'Donnell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sagaki shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Puller as he jumps to the side.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sagaki.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Puller tries to bench press Sagaki off him but Sagaki keeps the position.
Puller has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Sagaki slips into full mount, dodging the strikes by Puller.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Puller is trying to break free.

Puller is having to fend off submission attempts from Sagaki, who is looking to sink in the choke. Sagaki doesn't have the hooks in though and Puller manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.
Sagaki seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Sagaki has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Puller is looking to stand up but Sagaki won't let him.

Sagaki's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Puller trying to control but Sagaki is working from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sagaki shoots for a takedown but Puller saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

and Puller counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Sagaki tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Puller swivels and escapes.

Sagaki shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Puller's guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Puller is wriggling around but Sagaki manages to pass to half guard.

Puller is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Sagaki pushes Puller off and gets back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sagaki blocks a jab.
Lewis Burwell Puller is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sagaki shoots in looking for a takedown. Puller tries to sprawl out of it but Sagaki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Puller manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Sagaki shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Puller is trying to defend but Sagaki finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Puller is looking for a sweep. Sagaki is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Puller regains full guard. Nicely done.
Puller striking off his back but it's not causing Sagaki any problems.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Lewis Burwell Puller will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Sagaki dives in and grabs Puller's left leg, looking for a takedown. Puller pushes down on Sagaki's head and hops out.

and Puller counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Sagaki fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Puller looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Puller thuds a left hand into Sagaki's body.
A looping hook to the body misses from Puller. Sagaki does a little dance to reset his feet.
Sagaki shoots in but no luck this time.
Puller looks to land a combination. Sagaki sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Puller throws a hook but Sagaki blocks it.
Sagaki drops down looking for a counter takedown but Puller sprawls and moves away.
Sagaki shoots in for a double leg but Puller sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Puller! But no joy.
Sagaki takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sagaki closes this distance looking for a takedown but Puller circles away.
A shot to the liver by Puller. Beautiful body shot.
Puller lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sagaki circles away quickly and effectively.
As Puller tries to get set, Sagaki tries to push him back and clinch up but Puller manages to avoid the attempt.
Puller throws out a loose jab but Sagaki uses good head movement to avoid it.
Puller lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Sagaki is rocked!
Puller lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Oh Sagaki is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

and Puller counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Puller throws a right and a left that both miss.
Sagaki shoots in for a takedown but Puller shows good takedown defense.
Puller swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Sagaki misses with a takedown
and Puller counters with a huge left! Sagaki is in big trouble! He's backing up but Puller isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Sagaki from any more damage. A dominating finish by Puller!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:15 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lewis Burwell Puller!
Lewis Burwell Puller made sure to give a little speech post fight, saying 'Thanks to MKFC for having my back. Thanks to the fans for showing love. Thanks to my opponent for putting on one hell of a show.'.
