PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Roger David (ranked 3728 p4p, 3809 weight class) and Max Killjoy (ranked 527 p4p, 535 weight class). Max Killjoy will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roger David!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Max Killjoy!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Killjoy misses with a takedown

and David counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
David sitting in guard, not really doing much.
David has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Killjoy looking to hit a scissor sweep but David is one step ahead there.

Killjoy wants to improve his position but instead David has moved into half guard.

David slips a nice elbow through Killjoy's hands, connecting with Killjoy's forehead.
David moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Killjoy.
Killjoy parries the strikes from David easily there. David is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Killjoy to escape.
David content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
David is working Killjoy over with some ground and pound from side control.

David is looking to take a break and control but Killjoy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've been hearing good reports from David's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
David cracks Killjoy with a big right hand but Killjoy just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

and Killjoy counters with a left and a right that stings David.
David throws a nice looking combination but Killjoy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Killjoy jabs David to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Nice sprawl there from David as Killjoy shoots in.
Killjoy looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? David is fending him off so far but Killjoy persists. Nope, David circles away and we're back to standing.
Roger David has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Max Killjoy.

and Killjoy takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

It looks like Max Killjoy has been cut.

David moves into range and clinches up with Killjoy.
David jumps guard but Killjoy turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Killjoy ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Killjoy no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
David lands a couple of digs.

Killjoy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
David seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Killjoy is trying to keep David in close.
Killjoy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with David. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

David is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Killjoy can do to turn this around?

David shoots in and drives through. Killjoy sprawls well.

Killjoy replies with a solid counter kick to the body but David blocks it well.
Killjoy is trying hard to land a takedown here. David sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

David moves into range and clinches up with Killjoy.

Roger David overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Killjoy throws an elbow that misses. David uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Killjoy's guard. Nice move by David!

David decides to take the fight back to the feet.
A chopping leg kick lands by Killjoy.

David moves into the clinch successfully.

David manages to pull guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
David trying to keep a closed guard but Killjoy is proving a slippery customer.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Killjoy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. David swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Roger David will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

David throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Killjoy's waist but Killjoy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing David off to one side.
Killjoy rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but David moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
David tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

David is working Killjoy over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Killjoy looks like he's trying to stand up.
David seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
David is nestled in close to Killjoy, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
David moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
This is a sustained period of stalling by David.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Roger David showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for David, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
