PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Uri Gellar (ranked 2316 p4p, 2269 weight class) and Edgar Avetisyan (ranked 332 p4p, 323 weight class). Gellar comes to the cage accompanied by James Randi exposes Uri Geller. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 41 - 21 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Uri Gellar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 17 - 1, fighting out of London, Edgar Avetisyan!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Aafke Stam and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gellar throws a head kick that misses.
A low kick from Gellar misses
and Avetisyan counters with a stiff right hand.
Avetisyan avoids a kick to the body.
Avetisyan flicks out a counter leg kick but Gellar steps away.
Avetisyan lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
A head kick misses from Gellar.
The fight stays on the outside here - Gellar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Gellar lands with a slapping head kick.
Avetisyan looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Gellar throws a half hearted mid kick.
Gellar throws a series of punches but Avetisyan avoids them all with ease.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gellar digs a right hand underneath Avetisyan's ribcage. Avetisyan let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Avetisyan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Gellar uses from the top position.
Avetisyan wants to get back to his feet but Gellar is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Avetisyan is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Gellar presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Avetisyan, as that shot connected.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gellar keeps control of Avetisyan as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Avetisyan keeps the fight on the outside.
Gellar gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Avetisyan.
Gellar doesn't manage to clinch there - Avetisyan circles away.
Gellar tries to land a front kick but Avetisyan steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Avetisyan swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Avetisyan takes a swing at Gellar's ribcage but misses.

Nice uppercut lands for Gellar. That snapped Avetisyan's head back.

Gellar swings away with an uppercut that misses.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Gellar.

Avetisyan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Gellar lands a body shot in the clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Gellar tries to close the distance and clinch but Avetisyan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Avetisyan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Gellar lands with a slapping head kick.

It looks like Edgar Avetisyan has been cut.
Gellar tries to close the distance and clinch up but Avetisyan swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Gellar fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Avetisyan has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Uri Gellar will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Edgar Avetisyan's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

A lazy left from Avetisyan finds it's target.
Gellar finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Avetisyan takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Gellar lands with a hook. Avetisyan tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

and Avetisyan counters with a three punch combo that has Gellar backing up. Gellar nods at Avetisyan to acknowledge the strikes.

Gellar is rocked!
Avetisyan closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Gellar! Avetisyan dives in looking to finish! Gellar is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Edgar Avetisyan!
A very excited looking Edgar Avetisyan made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
