PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Johny Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Swearingen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burns comes to the cage accompanied by "Firestarter" by The Prodigy. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johny Burns!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Charlie Swearingen!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Swearingen shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Swearingen showed some decent athleticism there.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Burns manages to get to full guard.
Swearingen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Burns thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Burns looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Swearingen passes Burns's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Burns makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Burns.
Swearingen lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Swearingen gets to his feet - Burns follows without any prompting.

Swearingen looks to land a left hand but Burns moved out of range nicely.
Donk. Swearingen catches Burns right on the button with a cross.
Burns tries to clinch but Swearingen moves out of range.
Burns takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Swearingen stalks Burns and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Burns's face. Burns staggers backwards, shaken.
Burns doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Swearingen counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Swearingen works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Burns is looking for a sweep. Swearingen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Burns missing with punches from the bottom.
Swearingen perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Swearingen wants to stand up but Burns is controlling the position.
Swearingen prevents Burns from improving his position.
Swearingen scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Swearingen wants to pass to mount but Burns is defending the position.
Burns moves into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burns looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Swearingen throwing strikes but missing.
Burns bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Swearingen's guard.
Burns pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Swearingen is keeping the position for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Swearingen uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Burns keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Burns throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Swearingen blocks the body kick.
Burns shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Swearingen counters with a lovely shot to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Burns takes one to the chin there.
Swearingen moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

and Burns counters with a nice leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charlie Swearingen dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Burns prevents Swearingen from getting the reversal.

Burns fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Burns with shots to the head and body - Swearingen looks very uncomfortable down there.
Burns lands a big shot there that rocks Swearingen but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Swearingen is trying desperately to improve position.
Swearingen tries to hold on but Burns postures up.
Swearingen is bucking up trying to escape but Burns cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Burns can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Swearingen is looking to escape.
Swearingen is wriggling around trying to escape.

Swearingen has left one of his arms exposed and Burns doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Swearingen screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
