PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Moore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drake comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Warrior of Ice kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jeff Moore!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Robert Drake!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drake fails in his attempt to clinch.
Moore fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Drake is out of range.
Drake wants to clinch up but Moore keeps it at a distance.
Horrible takedown by Moore or perhaps it was just good defense by Drake which made him look bad.
Moore throws a series of punches but Drake moves out of range.
Drake moves in looking to clinch but Moore pushes him off.
Moore fails with the takedown.
Drake doesn't manage to clinch there - Moore circles away.
Drake fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Moore keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Moore shoots for a takedown but Drake saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeff Moore. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Drake tries to clinch there but Moore circles away.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Moore.
Drake is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Moore has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Moore moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

An elbow from Moore crashes against the mat.
Moore is chipping away with strikes.
Moore happy to just control the position for now.
Moore throwing strikes but Drake manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Drake stands up.
Moore swats away the attempt to clinch by Drake.

Moore closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Moore stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Drake is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Drake closes the distance and pushes Moore back into the cage.
Drake looking to throw knees to the head but Moore is blocking nicely.
Drake lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.


It looks like Jeff Moore has been cut.
Drake creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Drake tries to land knees in the clinch but Moore avoids the damage to the body.
Moore is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Moore has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Drake is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Drake misses with an elbow over the top.
With the fighters up against the cage, Drake throws an elbow but misses.
Drake prevents a takedown attempt there.
Moore is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Drake looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Drake misses with an elbow strike.
Moore drops down looking for an ankle pick but Drake pulls his leg out and moves away.

Moore shoots in and bounces Drake off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Moore wants to control from the top but Drake keeps moving.

Moore drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Moore jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Moore distracts Drake with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Moore trying to control but Drake is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Moore slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Moore wanted to stand there but Drake had control of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Moore dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jeff Moore's cut.
That's time! Moore's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Drake tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Moore paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Moore gets the takedown into side control.
An elbow from Moore crashes against the mat.

Moore stands up and beckons Drake to his feet.
Moore throws a shot to the body.
Drake fails with an attempt to clinch.
Moore works Drake's body with a nice hook.
Moore swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Drake.

Moore closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Moore lands in his opponent's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Drake wants to stand and escape but Moore is having none of it.
Drake is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drake can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Moore controls the pace.
Moore stops Drake from standing up.
Moore sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Moore stands up from guard. Let's bang!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Drake checks a leg kick.
Moore moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Robert Drake has been cut.
Moore swinging wilding here.

Moore darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Moore with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Moore is trying to work for a kimura but Drake is defending well.
Moore is taking a breather. Drake says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Drake is trying to stand back up but Moore is controlling him
Moore working over Drake with some ground and pound. Drake looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Moore is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Moore missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Moore is controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Moore dominated that second round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Moore shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Moore was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Jeff Moore overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Drake holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Moore tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Moore with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Drake wants to try and get back to his feet.
Drake takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Moore tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Drake holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Moore tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Moore lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Moore won't let Drake get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Moore breaks from Drake's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Moore tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Moore lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Drake hang on?
Robert Drake has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Moore landing strikes, looking to finish!
Moore in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jeff Moore just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Moore looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Drake is fending him off so far but Moore persists. Nope, Drake circles away and we're back to standing.

Moore fails to land the takedown.
Drake misses with a low kick.
Moore throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Drake's waist but Drake gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Moore off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeff Moore. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A head kick misses from Drake.
Moore connects with a looping right hand.
Moore closes the distance and clinches up with Drake, looking for a takedown. Moore pushes Drake against the cage but Drake circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Moore fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Drake manages to avoid it.
Drake wants to clinch.

Moore darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Moore seems to be working for a kimura but Drake defends the submission attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jeff Moore showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Moore, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
