PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gary King (ranked 4718 p4p, 3307 weight class) and Gajah Mada (ranked 0 p4p, 431 weight class). Mada has chosen Fighter Mode as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gary King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gajah Mada!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Damien Edna and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Mada counters with a right hand to the body.
King misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mada throws a leg kick but King moved away.
King stuffs the takedown.
Mada shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with King but King pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mada has a takedown stuffed.
It looked like King was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Mada.
Gary King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gajah Mada.
King tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mada shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. King defends it nicely.
King half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
King tries to clinch up.

King tries to clinch up but Mada circles away and keeps his distance.
Crunch! Mada slams his shin into King's torso.

Mada moves into range and clinches up with King.

King has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mada regains guard immediately.

Mada pushes King off and gets back to his feet.
Mada misses with a takedown attempt - King sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
King gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Mada counters with a head kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mada closes the distance and clinches.
Mada keeps control of King as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
King is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Mada to keep the fight standing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mada manages to break the clinch.
King fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mada avoids it really well and circles away.
King shoots in looking for a takedown but Mada manages to keep the fight standing, pushing King's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
King throws a combination that misses
and Mada counters with a nice body shot.
Mada fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
King fails with a takedown attempt.
Mada unleashes a big counter combination but King bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
King is breathing heavily.
Mada lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King avoids the head kick by Mada.
Nice sprawl there from King as Mada shoots in.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mada.
Mada fails with a takedown attempt.
King fails in his attempt to clinch.
A head kick from King lands but Mada takes it in his stride.

It looks like Gajah Mada has been cut.

Mada closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

King makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mada shoots in looking for a takedown. King tries to sprawl out of it but Mada keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. King manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
King is looking to clinch but Mada is avoiding it.
Mada throws a sloppy head kick
and King makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Mada misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
King swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
No joy there for Mada, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

King shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mada manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
King is stalling in the full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gajah Mada will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Gajah Mada's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

King swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Mada counters with a two punch combo.
King keeps the fight on the outside.
King tries for a takedown but Mada circles away easily
and Mada counters with a nice uppercut.
King tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Mada counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Mada is standing up over King. King looks to escape but Mada dives into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

King is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Mada moves into full mount!

Mada trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Gajah Mada has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mada looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Mada has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
King is trying to reverse the position but instead Mada has taken his back - oops!
Mada trying to control momentarily.
Mada doesn't have the hooks in and King manages to turn into his guard.
Mada is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Mada thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Mada is trying to keep King in close.

Mada looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
King is looking to work some ground and pound but Mada has wrist control.
King trying to move into half guard but instead Mada has managed to sweep!


King is looking for a triangle but Mada pushes his legs off easily.

Mada gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Mada shoots in looking for a takedown. King tries to sprawl out of it but Mada keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. King manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gajah Mada seems to be getting the better of the standup.
King defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mada.
Mada shoots for a takedown but King saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Gary King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gajah Mada.

Mada pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mada shoots in for a takedown but King shows good takedown defense.
King throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mada.

Mada forces King back against the cage and clinches.

King drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Mada manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Mada has momentary wrist control but King slips an elbow through the middle.
Mada keeping moving, preventing King from controlling successfully.

King avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mada kicks King off and gets to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gajah Mada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Mada shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says King as he avoids it easily.

Mada moves into range and clinches up with King.
King fails to pull guard.
King drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

King pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gary King is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mada scoring well with a low kick there.

King gets a clinch.

King tries to land a knee to the head but Mada blocks with his arms.
Mada is trying to pull guard but King has him pressed against the cage.
Mada leaning his opponent against the cage.
King is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Mada manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

King stands up over Mada, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Mada keeping moving, preventing King from controlling successfully.
King tries to stand but Mada is controlling from the bottom.
Mada controls King momentarily but King frees himself.
King chips away with some ground and pound.
Mada is trying to keep King in close.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
King throws a lazy right hand but Mada sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mada tries to clinch there but King circles away.
Mada stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mada wants it to stay on the feet.
King dives in and grabs Mada's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mada pushes down on King's head and hops out.
As King backs off Mada throws a huge counter combo but King manages to avoid it all.
King will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

King tries to keep at a distance but Mada has taken the fight into the clinch.
Mada prevents a takedown attempt there.
A body shot lands from Mada.

King breaks the clinch.
Mada throws a nice head kick!

It looks like Gary King has been cut.
A shot to the liver by Mada. Beautiful body shot.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mada is defended easily by King.
King feinted with a counter takedown.
King tries a head kick but it misses.
King moves in looking to clinch but Mada pushes him off.
Mada throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Mada forces King back against the cage and clinches.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

King's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mada shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as King sprawls well. King wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mada gets slowly back to his feet.
King changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gajah Mada comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mada has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Gajah Mada thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
