PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gearth Hale (ranked 4610 p4p, 6881 weight class) and Jonas Topics (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Topics has chosen No role models- J cole as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Gearth Hale has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Gearth Hale seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gearth Hale!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Ryoma Takatsuka and Micheangelo Fripello.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Topics fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hale, pushing him back against the cage.
Hale is pressed up against the cage. Topics has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Hale down to the mat. Hale avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Topics throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Hale.
Topics throws a head kick but Hale moves out of range.
Hale is looking for a counter combo.
Topics is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Hale moves into the clinch.
Hale misses with an elbow over the top.
Hale goes for a takedown in the clinch but Topics prevents it.
Topics drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Hale ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hale no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hale holds on and takes a little breather.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Topics avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hale has control of Topics 's left arm, preventing Topics from doing any damage.

Hale preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Topics is looking to work some ground and pound but Hale has wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hale looking to hit a scissor sweep but Topics is one step ahead there.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hale pulls Topics in close to prevent any damage.

Hale closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Topics 's guard.
Hale prevents Topics from getting back to his feet.
Hale is pushing down on Topics 's leg trying to pass to half guard. Topics is fighting to maintain full guard but Hale has managed to sneak the leg through.
Topics is looking for a sweep. Hale is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Hale is working for a kimura here but Topics manages to reverse the position and he's now in Hale's guard.
Topics wants to control from the top but Hale keeps moving.
Hale avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Topics gets to his feet. Hale looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Hale throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Topics throws a series of punches but Hale avoids them all with ease.
Hale wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Topics connects with a leg kick.
Topics looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Hale swats away the attempt to clinch by Topics .

No luck with that takedown attempt from Hale.

Hale gets a double leg takedown into Topics 's guard.
Hale is breathing heavily.
Topics is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Topics wants to stand but Hale is controlling the position.
Hale content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hale has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Topics has passed into side control.

Topics looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Topics throws an elbow but Hale slips to the side and avoids it well.
Gearth Hale overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Topics working the ground and pound but Hale is defending the strikes.
Hale is trying to get back to half guard.
Hale keeping his opponent close.

Topics throws a strike aimed at the side of Hale's head but Hale avoids it well.
You can see the frustration on Hale's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Topics misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Topics working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Topics decides to stand back up.
Some wild striking there from Hale.
Topics is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Topics shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Hale eats them both and turns towards Topics to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Topics misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Hale throws a big counter combination but Topics scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Topics has a takedown stuffed.
Hale fails with a takedown attempt.

Hale manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Topics on his heels. He'll look to pass Topics 's guard now, I'm sure.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Topics controls Hale momentarily but Hale frees himself.

Jonas Topics showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Hale is looking to land body kicks.
Hale throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Topics 's waist but Topics gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hale off to one side.
Hale shoots in and drives through. Topics sprawls well.
Hale's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Topics connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Hale scrambles back to his feet.
Jonas Topics seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Topics moves in looking to clinch but Hale pushes him off.

Hale keeps control of Topics as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Topics is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Hale to keep the fight standing.

Topics looks to land a combination. Hale sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Topics makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Hale tries to score a body lock takedown but Topics shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Hale can't get the takedown.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Topics lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Hale or not.
Hale blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Jonas Topics seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hale avoids the head kick by Topics .
Topics feints a jab promting Hale to slip. Topics then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Hale slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Hale scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Topics throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Topics manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Hale manages to break the clinch.

Topics rushes Hale and presses him up against the cage.
Topics jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hale walks away with a smile on his face. Topics gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Hale moves into range and clinches up with Topics .
Hale keeps control of Topics as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Hale turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Topics throws Hale to one side and escapes!
Hale moves in looking to clinch but Topics pushes him off.
A slapping leg kick lands for Topics .
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hale fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Topics avoids it really well and circles away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jonas Topics comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Topics has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
