PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Maruim Silva (ranked 2794 p4p, 2569 weight class) and Sho Pereyra (ranked 274 p4p, 254 weight class). Silva comes to the cage accompanied by Sabotage. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Maruim Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sho Pereyra!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Patrick Alders and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva fails with the takedown.

Silva is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Pereyra's half guard.
Pereyra is looking to control Silva's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pereyra avoid being mounted?
Silva wants to pass the guard but Pereyra is defending well.
Pereyra is concentrating on defense, preventing Silva from advancing position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva is looking to advance position but Pereyra won't allow it.
Silva looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Silva is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Pereyra defends it well.
Silva is pressing down on Pereyra's thigh, looking to free his foot. Pereyra is holding on for now.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Silva seems to be working for a kimura but Pereyra defends the submission attempt.
Pereyra works his way to full guard. Good work.
Silva wants to control from the top but Pereyra keeps moving.
Pereyra tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Silva looking to sit in guard and control but Pereyra gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Silva definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Silva is on top in guard.

Pereyra tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pereyra swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pereyra can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Silva controls the pace.
Silva sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Pereyra's guard.
Silva works his way into full mount!
Pereyra is squirming around, avoiding Silva's attempts to control the action.
Silva lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Silva tries to control but Pereyra wriggling away.
Silva is really struggling to control Pereyra but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Silva is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Pereyra has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Pereyra!
Pereyra is pushing down on Silva's leg trying to pass to half guard. Silva is fighting to maintain full guard but Pereyra has managed to sneak the leg through.
Pereyra is looking to pass Silva's guard but actually Silva recovers to full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Pereyra scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Pereyra tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silva swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Silva feinted with a counter takedown.
Pereyra takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Silva pulls Pereyra in close to his closed guard and prevents Pereyra from doing any damage or advancing position.

Pereyra must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Sho Pereyra seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fighters circling - Pereyra throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

and Silva counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Pereyra!

Pereyra throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Silva connects with a single shot there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pereyra throws a jab when Silva was well out of range.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Pereyra lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Silva has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Silva and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Silva gets caught napping as Pereyra dives in and scores a takedown. Silva manages to retain guard.
We've been informed that Pereyra has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Pereyra forces his way into half guard.
Pereyra wants to pass the guard but Silva is defending well.
Silva controlling the position for now.
Pereyra trying to mount his opponent but Silva defends it.
The fighters are battling for position here. Silva manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Silva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Sho Pereyra has got the better of the ground game so far.
Silva is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Silva pulls Pereyra in to control the position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

Silva has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pereyra can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Pereyra wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.

Silva wants to sweep but no luck.

Sho Pereyra showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Silva feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silva jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Pereyra is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Pereyra and Silva has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Silva in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Pereyra tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Silva!

A very excited looking Maruim Silva made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
The defeated Sho Pereyra had this to say: 'I still have holes in my game. I'm going to work and improve. That's that. '.
