PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kona McMonster (ranked 4726 p4p, 5218 weight class) and Phil Rivers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Phil Rivers was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kona McMonster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Phil Rivers!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivers lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

It looks like Kona McMonster has been cut.
McMonster tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rivers sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten McMonster somewhat.
It seemed like Rivers was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
McMonster tries a head kick but it misses.
Rivers works McMonster's body with a nice hook.
Rivers throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
McMonster defending well as Rivers loads up on a big left hand.
As Rivers looks to move away, McMonster throws a big counter combo but Rivers just gets out of the way.
Rivers scores with a three punch combo!
Rivers has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Rivers misses with a right hand
and McMonster cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Rivers throws a big shot that misses.
Rivers misses with a hook.
McMonster wants to clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rivers throws a hook to the side of McMonster's head but McMonster sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
McMonster closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rivers circles away.
Rivers scores with a hook to the body. McMonster takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Rivers lunges at McMonster with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by McMonster's hand.
Rivers dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rivers wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Rivers lands with a good body shot.
Rivers finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Rivers misses with a series of wild punches.
McMonster ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from McMonster is defended easily by Rivers.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kona McMonster. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rivers comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
McMonster slips under a jab.
Rivers throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent McMonster stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Rivers lands a jab to the nose.

McMonster drives through and clinches with Rivers against the cage.
Rivers is looking to control McMonster's arms but McMonster gets an underhook and turns him. Now Rivers has his back to the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rivers tries to stall but McMonster uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Rivers tries to throw a body punch but McMonster avoids it by throwing Rivers back against the cage.
Rivers misses with a hook from the clinch.
McMonster blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Rivers misses with some punches.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rivers wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Rivers looking to slow down the pace here.
Rivers is looking to break free of the clinch but McMonster has double underhooks.
The referee calls for Rivers to work.
Rivers struggles to land a body shot inside as McMonster controls his hands.
Rivers has a couple of punches blocked by McMonster.
Rivers tries to throw a body punch but McMonster avoids it by throwing Rivers back against the cage.
Rivers can't break the clinch.

The referee calls for McMonster to work.
Rivers is looking to control McMonster's arms but McMonster gets an underhook and turns him. Now Rivers has his back to the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Rivers.
McMonster is working for takedown but Rivers is calmly controlling the position for now.
Rivers tries to throw a body punch but McMonster avoids it by throwing Rivers back against the cage.
McMonster tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rivers just stands there and leans against the cage.
McMonster tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

McMonster pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
McMonster misses with a low kick.
and Rivers counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts McMonster! He's just covering up as Rivers starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Phil Rivers!
