PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Cowell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adrian Blanchard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blanchard has chosen "Bull's on Parade" by Rage Against the Machine as his entrance music. Adrian Blanchard has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Anderson Cowell's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Cowell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Adrian Blanchard!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Blanchard gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Cowell loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Cowell is working Blanchard over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Cowell is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Blanchard has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cowell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Cowell is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Cowell stops Blanchard from standing up.
Cowell controlling from the top position.
Blanchard trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Cowell trying to control the position from guard on top but Blanchard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Blanchard throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Blanchard wants to get back to his feet but Cowell is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Blanchard is wriggling around but Cowell manages to pass to half guard.

Blanchard is looking to improve his position.
Blanchard looks gassed!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Blanchard keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Cowell fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anderson Cowell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cowell misses with a takedown attempt - Blanchard sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Horrible takedown by Cowell or perhaps it was just good defense by Blanchard which made him look bad.
Cowell closes the distance and clinches up with Blanchard, looking for a takedown. Cowell pushes Blanchard against the cage but Blanchard circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Blanchard gets the takedown into side control.
Cowell is looking to reverse the position.

Blanchard wants to stand but Cowell has his arm trapped.
Cowell regains half guard.

Blanchard wants to work for an arm triangle but Cowell is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cowell controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Cowell gets back to full guard.
Blanchard is looking to stand up but Cowell won't let him.
Cowell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Blanchard wants to stand and escape but instead Cowell has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Cowell wants to control from the top but Blanchard keeps moving.
Blanchard can't keep his opponent in guard - Cowell advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cowell looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Cowell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Blanchard keeps working.
Cowell is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Blanchard is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Cowell seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Blanchard is trying to stand.

Cowell is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Blanchard defends it well.
Blanchard is trying to control but can't.
Cowell passes the guard and advances to mount!
Blanchard is looking to improve his position but Cowell isn't that keen on the idea.
Cowell looking to control but Blanchard is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anderson Cowell dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Blanchard is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Blanchard tries to clinch there but Cowell circles away.

Cowell moves into range and clinches up with Blanchard.

Cowell wants to control from the top but Blanchard keeps moving.

Blanchard is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cowell pushing down on Blanchard's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Well, if Cowell is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Cowell is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Cowell has hold of Blanchard's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Blanchard tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Cowell cranks the arm and Blanchard screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Blanchard, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Anderson Cowell!
