PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vincenzo Calliente (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chad Reilly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reilly comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Frontline-Pillar kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Chad Reilly enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vincenzo Calliente!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chad Reilly!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Anthony Taglia and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Calliente shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Reilly as he jumps to the side.
Calliente paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Calliente throws a solid leg kick but Reilly takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Calliente.
Reilly uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Calliente.
A swing and a miss from Calliente.
Calliente thows a left - swing and a miss!

Reilly looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Reilly misses with a head shot. Calliente uses the momentum to regain guard.
Calliente keeping full guard, as Reilly tries to pass.
Reilly controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Calliente is trying to control the position but Reilly postures up.

Reilly wants to control from the top but Calliente keeps moving.

Calliente is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Reilly is controlling him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Reilly trying to hold on to Calliente's head to control him but Calliente postures up.

Calliente lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reilly tries to roll over but Calliente keeps him under control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reilly can do anything to dispel that myth.
Reilly wants to improve his position but Calliente is controlling well.
Reilly makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Reilly.

Reilly looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Reilly had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Calliente is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Reilly Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Calliente's back instead.
Reilly looks gassed!

Reilly keeps control of the position as Calliente tries to break free.
Calliente trying to control the action but Reilly just sinks the hooks in.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Calliente bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Calliente has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Reilly is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Calliente postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Calliente decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Reilly, up you get!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Reilly feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Calliente pushes Reilly off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Reilly misses with a takedown attempt - Calliente sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Reilly is trying to control the action in half guard but Calliente is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Reilly seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Reilly throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Reilly seems to be working for a kimura but Calliente defends the submission attempt.

Reilly has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Reilly is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Calliente doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Reilly.

Reilly looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Calliente thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Reilly won't allow Calliente to get back to his feet.
Reilly stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Calliente swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Calliente has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Reilly can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Calliente is refusing to be controlled, as Reilly sits in half guard.

Calliente blocking the ground and pound attempt from Reilly.
Calliente slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Reilly not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Chad Reilly showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Reilly counters with a nice double leg into side control. Calliente won't be happy with that.

Reilly goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Calliente rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Reilly's guard! Nice work there by Calliente!
Calliente postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Reilly throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Calliente escapes and throws Reilly's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Calliente stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Calliente tries to clinch up but Reilly circles away and keeps his distance.

Reilly sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Calliente's guard.

Reilly scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Calliente is desperately trying to improve his position but Reilly has a good base and remains in mount.
Reilly can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Calliente is looking to escape.
Reilly lands a nice shot to the head.
Calliente is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Reilly is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Calliente is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Calliente flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Reilly anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Calliente and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Reilly slips an arm under Calliente chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Reilly has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Reilly is squeezing on Calliente like an anaconda would it's prey. Calliente fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Chad Reilly!
