PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jon Rambo (ranked 4511 p4p, 23071 weight class) and Tom Davis (ranked 398 p4p, 551 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Jon Rambo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tom Davis!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Davis closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Davis tightens his grip and picks Rambo up, before dumping him to the ground. Rambo manages to land in guard.
Rambo controlling the position.
Davis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Davis stopping the sweep attempt from Rambo.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Davis won't allow Rambo to get back to his feet.
Rambo working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Davis.
Davis throwing strikes but missing.
Rambo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Davis throws a strike but Rambo rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Davis wants to stand up but Rambo is controlling him.
Rambo trying to control but Davis is working from the bottom.
We've been hearing that Rambo has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Rambo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Davis is keeping the position for now.
Davis is looking to stand up but Rambo isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Rambo walks into a stiff left hand from Davis.
Davis pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Davis lands with an overhand left.

Davis leaves Rambo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Davis gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Davis has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Rambo is trying to keep an underhook but Davis manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Rambo pushes Davis off but Davis dives into side control.
Rambo is trying to control Davis's posture but Davis avoids it.
Rambo gets back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rambo is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rambo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Davis is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Davis not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Davis throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Rambo blocking the ground and pound attempt from Davis.
Davis throwing shots but Rambo is blocking nicely.

Rambo pushes Davis off and gets back to his feet.
Rambo tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Davis moves into the clinch successfully.

Davis manages to break the clinch.
Davis scores with a nice head shot.

Davis darts in and clinches Rambo up against the cage.

Rambo gets control of Davis's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rambo will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Davis with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rambo pulls Davis in close to prevent any damage.
Davis throws a big elbow that misses.
Davis with a flurry of punches that miss.
Davis wants to get up but he can't break Rambo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Rambo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Davis is one step ahead there.
Davis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rambo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rambo is trying to control the position but Davis postures up.
Davis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Davis dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Rambo is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Davis.

Rambo instigates a clinch.

Davis has picked Rambo up - he's going for a ride! Davis dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Rambo regains full guard. Nicely done.
Davis postures up.
Davis stands up over Rambo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Davis wants to get up but he can't break Rambo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Davis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rambo is on top in guard.

Davis is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rambo is controlling him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rambo not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Rambo wants to control from the top but Davis keeps moving.

Rambo stands up from Davis's guard - Rambo perhaps looking for a knockout.
Davis throws a head kick but Rambo moves out of range.
Rambo went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Davis gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Rambo wants to stall.

Davis breaks from the clinch.

Davis moves into the clinch.

Davis pulls guard effortlessly.
Davis wants to stand but Rambo is controlling the position.
Davis keeping moving, preventing Rambo from controlling successfully.
Davis is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Davis can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rambo controls from within his opponent's guard.
Davis wants to stand but Rambo is controlling the position.
Rambo slips nicely into half guard.

Davis kicks off Rambo and gets to his feet.

Rambo tries to keep at a distance but Davis has taken the fight into the clinch.

Davis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Rambo throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Davis closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Davis manages to break the clinch.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rambo.
Jon Rambo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Davis moves into range and clinches up with Rambo.

Davis gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Rambo regains guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Davis working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Rambo working for a triangle but Davis defends it easily.
Rambo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Tom Davis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Davis has taken the fight to the clinch.

Rambo doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Davis holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Davis works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Davis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A head kick misses from Davis.
Rambo doesn't manage to clinch there - Davis circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Davis closes the distance and clinches.
Davis is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Davis wants the takedown. Rambo is fighting it off but Davis persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Rambo's guard against the cage.

Rambo has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Davis has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Davis lands a takedown into guard.

Rambo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Davis throwing strikes from guard but Rambo blocks nicely.
Rambo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Rambo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Davis defends well.
Rambo is trying to control the position but Davis postures up.

Davis postures up in Rambo's guard and throws a big left but Rambo blocks it.
Rambo preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Davis throwing strikes but missing.
Davis throws an elbow that misses. Rambo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Davis's guard. Nice move by Rambo!

Rambo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Davis is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rambo is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jon Rambo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Davis dives in and scores a takedown into Rambo's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tom Davis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Davis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
