PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh Johnson (ranked 5986 p4p, 4592 weight class) and Test Twenty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Test Twenty!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Bruno Lombardi and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Twenty wants to get back to his feet but Johnson is dominant here and he's now got Twenty's back!
Twenty trying to control the position but Johnson manages to sink in the hooks.
Johnson trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Twenty doesn't escape.
Twenty is trying to stand back up.

Twenty fending off the submission attempt from Johnson.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Twenty trying to control the action but Johnson just sinks the hooks in.

Johnson really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Twenty.
Johnson is not going to allow Twenty to sit and survive in this position.
Johnson punches Twenty on the ear.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Johnson scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Twenty is looking for a way out.

Twenty trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Twenty is trying to stand back up.
Twenty tries to escape but Johnson has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Johnson just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Johnson is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Twenty is defending well though. Johnson let's go of the attempt for now.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Twenty is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Johnson really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Twenty.

Johnson moves in looking to clinch but Twenty pushes him off.
As Johnson backs off Twenty throws a huge counter combo but Johnson manages to avoid it all.
Josh Johnson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Twenty shoots in for a double leg but Johnson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Johnson tries to counter with a takedown but Twenty is quick to defend against it.
Johnson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Twenty can do to turn this around?

Twenty stuffs the takedown.

Twenty is looking to clinch but Johnson is avoiding it.

Twenty tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Johnson just stands there and leans against the cage.

Twenty gets underhooks to prevent Johnson's takedown attempt.
Johnson lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Twenty backwards.

It looks like Test Twenty has been cut.
Twenty is breathing heavily.
Johnson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Twenty gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Johnson prevents a body shot from Twenty.
Johnson wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Twenty has him pressed against the cage.

Johnson pulls guard.
Twenty looking to sit in guard and control but Johnson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Johnson stands up from Twenty's guard - Johnson perhaps looking for a knockout.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown but Twenty shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Johnson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Johnson lands in his opponent's guard.
Twenty wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Johnson manages to pass to side control.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Johnson postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Twenty to stand up.
Johnson fails with a takedown attempt.

Twenty stuffs the takedown.
Twenty tries to clinch there but Johnson circles away.
Johnson half committed to a counter leg kick.
Twenty leaves Johnson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Twenty wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Johnson manages to pass to side control.

Johnson lands with a punch from half guard.
Twenty really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Well, if Johnson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Twenty is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Johnson dives into side control.

Twenty is looking to get back to his feet here but Johnson is keeping cool and he's managed to take Twenty's back.

Twenty is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Twenty rolls, trying to escape but Johnson keeps control of the position.
Twenty takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Johnson is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Johnson gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Johnson gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Johnson apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Johnson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Johnson clinches.
Twenty drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Twenty tries to pull guard but Johnson holds him up against the cage and eventually Twenty drops back down to his feet.

Johnson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Twenty is looking to stand back up but Johnson counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Twenty.

Twenty wants to get back to full guard but Johnson has passed into side control.
Johnson slows the pace down.

Johnson stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnson shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Twenty moves out of range as Johnson throws a body kick.
Johnson tries for a takedown but Twenty sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Johnson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Twenty is looking to get back to his feet here but Johnson is keeping cool and he's managed to take Twenty's back.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Johnson controlling the positon.

Johnson is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Twenty knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Twenty for a finish.

Johnson is riding his opponent, not letting Twenty buck him off.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Johnson lands a shot to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johnson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
