Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Boaler (ranked 1153 p4p, 1527 weight class) and Matt Cooke (ranked 156 p4p, 202 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jonathan Boaler!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 40 - 19 - 3, fighting out of St Petersburg, Matt Cooke!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boaler dives in and grabs Cooke's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cooke pushes down on Boaler's head and hops out.
Cooke was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Cooke throws the kick towards the body but Boaler avoids it.
Cooke misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Boaler.
Boaler is looking to counter punch.
Cooke uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Boaler.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Boaler is defended easily by Cooke.
Cooke throws a right and a left that Boaler avoids nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cooke throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Boaler half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Cooke walks into a stiff left hand from Boaler.
Cooke misses with a body shot.
Boaler shoots in looking for a takedown but Cooke manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Boaler's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Boaler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Cooke looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Cooke passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Boaler!
Cooke wants to take Boaler's back here but Boaler is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Cooke is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Cooke dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Boaler. That did some damage!

and Boaler cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Cooke has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

and Cooke counters with a straight right hand.
A head kick misses from Cooke.
Boaler thows a left - swing and a miss!
Cooke throws a jab but it's blocked by Boaler.
Boaler tries for a takedown but Cooke circles away easily
and Cooke counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Boaler fails to pull guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Cooke dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Cooke pivots, looking for a leg kick but Boaler is out of range and Cooke settles back down.
Boaler throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

enabling Cooke to counter with a crisp jab.
Cooke is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Boaler rather than just go for the knockout.
Cooke tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Boaler was well out of range. Poor timing from Cooke.
A looping hook to the body misses from Cooke. Boaler does a little dance to reset his feet.

Boaler walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Cooke displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Boaler throws out the jab.

Cooke lands a hook to the side of the head.

Boaler gets control of Cooke's arms and successfully pulls guard. Boaler will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Cooke is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Boaler has his foot on Cooke's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cooke works his way back into a safe position though.
Cooke not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Cooke tries to free his leg and advance position but Boaler is retaining full guard.

Boaler is looking for a triangle but Cooke pushes his legs off easily.
Cooke passes Boaler's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Cooke is controlling the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boaler is looking to improve his position.

Cooke is taking a breather. Boaler says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Boaler is looking to control Cooke's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Boaler avoid being mounted?
Boaler is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Cooke is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Cooke moves into full mount! Boaler won't be happy about that!

Cooke takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Boaler is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Soul Supremacy Rio, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Cooke prevents Boaler from getting the reversal.

Cooke can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Boaler is looking to escape.

Cooke is looking to work his way around to Boaler's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

Boaler wants to hold on but Cooke pushes him away.
Cooke tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Matt Cooke showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Boaler tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cooke smiles and moves away.

and Cooke counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Cooke throws a half hearted mid kick.
Boaler stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Cooke.
Cooke throws the left hand but Boaler avoids the punch easily.
Cooke tests Boaler's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Boaler thuds a left hand into Cooke's body.
Cooke misses with a straight left.
Cooke misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Boaler appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Cooke swings for the body but Boaler moves out of range.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Cooke, as that shot connected.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Boaler has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Cooke is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Boaler.

The referee asks Cooke politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Cooke prefers to stall for the moment though.

Boaler is trying to control Cooke's posture but Cooke avoids it.

Cooke lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Cooke pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cooke just misses with a punch to the body.
Cooke misses with a kick to the body.

Boaler moves out of range of the body kick from Cooke.
Boaler closes the distance and clinches up with Cooke, looking for a takedown. Boaler pushes Cooke against the cage but Cooke circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Cooke leaves Boaler with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Boaler fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Cooke escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Boaler is trying to pull guard but Cooke has him pressed against the cage.

Boaler tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cooke just stands there and leans against the cage.
Cooke lands with a short shot to the head.
Cooke cracks Boaler with a nice body shot.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

Boaler tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Cooke lands a left hand.
Cooke lands with a left to the head.
Cooke struggles to land a body shot inside as Boaler controls his hands.

Cooke makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Cooke digs a right hand underneath Boaler's ribcage. Boaler let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Cooke misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Cooke tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Boaler's elbow.
Cooke lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Boaler or not.

Cooke breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cooke thumps Boaler with a low kick.
Cooke scores with a jab to the body.
A head kick misses from Cooke.
Cooke throws a body shot but no joy.
Cooke throws a head kick that misses.

Cooke lands a big head kick that sends Boaler tumbling to the mat! Cooke takes a step backwards and waves Boaler back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Boaler is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cooke cracks Boaler with a hook to the temple - Boaler is on wobbly legs here! Cooke swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Boaler falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Cooke wins by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:17 of round 4, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Matt Cooke!
