PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vern Vurris (ranked 4797 p4p, 4313 weight class) and Kirk Patrick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Vern Vurris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Sano and Sosuke Kotani.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vurris changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Patrick tries to avoid it but Vurris manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Patrick to the ground. Patrick escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Vurris fails with the takedown.

Patrick gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Patrick has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Vurris has passed into side control.
Vurris scoring with punches and elbows.
Patrick seems a little lost for a moment, as Vurris dominates the positioning.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Patrick tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Vurris wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Patrick can't do much from the bottom here.
Patrick is looking to regain half guard here but Vurris keeps moving and retains side control.

Vurris misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Patrick is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Patrick tries to bench press Vurris off him but Vurris keeps the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Patrick is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Vurris is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Vurris with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Patrick sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Patrick is not content to let Vurris control the position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Vurris lands a nice short elbow.
Patrick wants to get back to full guard but Vurris has mounted him!
Patrick is desperately trying to improve his position but Vurris has a good base and remains in mount.

Vurris looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Patrick is not content to let Vurris control the position.
Vurris is thwarting Patrick's attempts to control the position.
Patrick wants to sweep but Vurris has passed to side control!
Patrick is trying to control Vurris's posture but Vurris avoids it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Patrick is working to avoid the ground and pound but Vurris connects with a decent elbow.
Patrick taking punishment in the form of punches.
Vurris connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Patrick some visible discomfort.
Vurris lands a few punches from side control.
Patrick is trying to get back to half guard.
Patrick takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Vurris advances to mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Patrick takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Vurris's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
