PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kamaru Simon (ranked 5092 p4p, 5079 weight class) and Rob Lock (ranked 572 p4p, 570 weight class). Simon comes to the cage accompanied by Nightmare. Rob Lock is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rob Lock!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Chris Saunders and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lock will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Nice sprawl there from Simon as Lock shoots in.
Simon ducks under a wild hook from Lock.
No luck for Lock with that takedown attempt.
Kamaru Simon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rob Lock.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Lock dives in and grabs Simon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Simon pushes down on Lock's head and hops out.
It looked like Simon was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Simon tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lock defends well and Simon ends up having to push Lock into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Simon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Nice body kick there by Simon.
Simon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Simon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lock tries to avoid it but Simon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lock to the ground. Lock escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Simon counters with a series of strikes. Lock will be more careful next time no doubt.
Simon lands a leg kick that knocks Lock off balance momentarily.

Simon throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Simon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lock does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Lock shoots in for a takedown but Simon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Simon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Simon wants it to stay on the feet.

Simon throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lock was covering up waiting for the punch and Simon finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lock can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Simon works his foot free and advances to mount.

Lock is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Simon is staying active.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Simon scores with a nice body kick.
Lock fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Simon tries to close the distance and clinch but Lock swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Lock let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Kamaru Simon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Well Simon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
