The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sagan swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Montpoisante has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Ludus Magnus in the buildup to the fight.

so Sagan counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sagan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Montpoisante is just riding it out for now. Sagan eventually gives up the hold.

so Sagan counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Montpoisante uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Sagan fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Montpoisante is out of range.
Sagan takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Sagan tries to bum rush Montpoisante with a series of wild strikes but Montpoisante uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Sagan lands a head kick. Montpoisante smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Montpoisante connects with the punch.
Sagan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Montpoisante avoids it really well and circles away.

Montpoisante rushes Sagan and presses him up against the cage.
Montpoisante lands a shot to the body.

Montpoisante creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Sagan's defenses.

It looks like Carl Sagan has been cut.
Sagan tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Montpoisante just stands there and leans against the cage.

Montpoisante has Sagan pressed against the cage. He pushes Sagan back and as he springs towards him off the cage, Montpoisante throws a beautiful elbow that sends Sagan crashing to the floor! Montpoisante piles on the pressure with more strikes! Sagan is flailing away but he's not defending himself and the referee steps in to stop the fight!
