Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Cooke (ranked 6007 p4p, 2577 weight class) and Toby Vertongen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Samuel Cooke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Toby Vertongen!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooke gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Vertongen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Cooke sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Cooke half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Vertongen is looking to slow Cooke down with leg kicks.
Cooke avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Vertongen fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Cooke has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Vertongen throws a head kick that half lands.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vertongen throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Vertongen pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Vertongen thows a leg kick but Cooke checks it
and Cooke counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Cooke is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Vertongen is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
