PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between The Reverend Jim Ignatowski (ranked 670 p4p, 2343 weight class) and Tzu Chu (ranked 18 p4p, 91 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that The Reverend Jim Ignatowski has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily The Reverend Jim Ignatowski seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, The Reverend Jim Ignatowski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tzu Chu!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chu throws a poor cross that misses
and Ignatowski counters with a thumping low kick.
Ignatowski stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ignatowski wants it to stay on the feet.
Chu tries to move into range but Ignatowski moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Ignatowski cracks Chu with an open hand slap.

Chu gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Chu misses with a shot to the kidneys.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Ignatowski lands a nice uppercut.

Ignatowski pulls Chu into guard.

Ignatowski escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chu gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Ignatowski can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Chu controls the pace.
Chu is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Chu makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Ignatowski is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Chu defends well.
Ignatowski wants to sweep but no luck.

Ignatowski working for submissions but it's allowed Chu to get to half guard.
Chu is taking a breather. Ignatowski says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Ignatowski is looking to improve his position.

Chu is trying to control. Ignatowski wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Chu postures up in Ignatowski's guard and throws a big left but Ignatowski blocks it.

Ignatowski is looking for a triangle but Chu pushes his legs off easily.

Ignatowski isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Chu stacks Ignatowski on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Chu!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ignatowski tries to buck Chu off but Chu is having none of it.

Chu tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Chu has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ignatowski wants to control but Chu postures up.
Chu is working Ignatowski over with some ground and pound from side control.

Chu works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Chu wants to control but Ignatowski is keeping him busy.

Ignatowski sneaks back into half guard.
Chu working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Chu looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Ignatowski wants to control but Chu is keeping busy.

Ignatowski is looking for a sweep. Chu is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Well, if Chu is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Chu's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that The Reverend Jim Ignatowski will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!

Chu uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ignatowski.
Chu throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Chu throws a hook to the side of Ignatowski's head but Ignatowski sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Ignatowski takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Ignatowski will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chu displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ignatowski throws out the jab.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Chu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ignatowski manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Chu stalks Ignatowski and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Ignatowski's face. Ignatowski staggers backwards, shaken.

Chu is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Ignatowski counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Horrible takedown attempt by Chu or perhaps it was just good defense by Ignatowski, which made it look bad.
The Reverend Jim Ignatowski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tzu Chu.

Ignatowski fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Chu has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Ignatowski lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
I was talking to Ignatowski's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Chu is looking to clinch but Ignatowski is avoiding it.

Chu closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ignatowski to the mat! Ignatowski manages to get full guard.

Ignatowski pushes a forearm under Chu's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Chu is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). The Reverend Jim Ignatowski!
During a confident post fight interview, The Reverend Jim Ignatowski thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
