Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jubei Akechi (ranked 628 p4p, 1268 weight class) and Evan Duvernay (ranked 78 p4p, 157 weight class). Evan Duvernay has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jubei Akechi's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jubei Akechi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Evan Duvernay!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akechi swats away the attempt to clinch by Duvernay.

Evan Duvernay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Duvernay connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Akechi's hands.

Duvernay is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Duvernay is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Akechi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Duvernay got a little sloppy there for a moment and Akechi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Duvernay has managed to get both his arms back between Akechi's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Duvernay has gone for a leg lock! Akechi slips out almost immediately though and dives into Duvernay's guard.


And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jubei Akechi.
I think Duvernay has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Evan Duvernay decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
