Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rakin Schmoe (ranked 4496 p4p, 4416 weight class) and Vasyl Sokol (ranked 0 p4p, 459 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rakin Schmoe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Vasyl Sokol!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schmoe fails with a takedown attempt.
Sokol throws out a counter right but Schmoe avoids it with no problem.
Sokol circles away from the clinch attempt
and Sokol cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

It looks like Rakin Schmoe has been cut.
Schmoe looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sokol is fending him off so far but Schmoe persists. Nope, Sokol circles away and we're back to standing.
Sokol looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
A jab from Sokol finds it's way through Schmoe's defenses.
Sokol throws a sloppy head kick
and Schmoe counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Schmoe misses with a two punch combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sokol shoots in looking for a takedown but Schmoe manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sokol's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sokol fails to land the takedown.
Schmoe was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Nice sprawl there from Schmoe as Sokol shoots in.
Rakin Schmoe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vasyl Sokol.
Schmoe tries to close the distance and clinch but Sokol swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Schmoe misses with a leg kick.
Sokol takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Sokol shoots in looking for a takedown. Schmoe tries to sprawl out of it but Sokol keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Schmoe manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Sokol pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sokol stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Sokol darts in looking for a takedown but Schmoe gets double underhooks and turns Sokol into the cage.
Schmoe fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Schmoe tries to clinch but Sokol is having none of it.
Sokol throws out a counter right but Schmoe avoids it with no problem.
Schmoe really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Sokol shoots in for a takedown but Schmoe shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Schmoe takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Schmoe slaps away a takedown attempt from Sokol, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Sokol looks winded!
Schmoe tries to clinch there but Sokol circles away.
A jab lands there for Schmoe.
Sokol shoots and misses
letting Schmoe counter with a right hand.
Sokol takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sokol tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Schmoe was well out of range. Poor timing from Sokol.
The fight stays on the outside here - Schmoe looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Sokol swings away with a body shot that misses
and Schmoe counters with a nice uppercut.
Sokol shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Schmoe pinned against the cage. Schmoe gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
An attempted straight right counter from Schmoe misses the target.

Sokol throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Schmoe's waist but Schmoe gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sokol off to one side.
Sokol tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Schmoe misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Schmoe moves into the clinch.

Sokol breaks from the clinch.
Sokol slaps away a takedown attempt from Schmoe, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Sokol tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Schmoe swivels and escapes.
Schmoe tries to clinch but Sokol is having none of it.
Schmoe wants to clinch
and Sokol counters with a stiff right hand.

Sokol has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Schmoe.
Schmoe is looking to clinch.
Schmoe slaps away a takedown attempt from Sokol, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Schmoe throws a head kick but Sokol moves out of range.
Schmoe shoots for a double leg takedown but Sokol sprawls well. He's pushed Schmoe's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Sokol has Schmoe pressed against the cage.
Schmoe tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rakin Schmoe will probably get the nod.

Schmoe stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Schmoe wants it to stay on the feet.

Schmoe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sokol slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A looping hook to the body misses from Schmoe. Sokol does a little dance to reset his feet.
Sokol fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Schmoe manages to avoid it.
Sokol shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Schmoe as he avoids it easily.

Schmoe tries to clinch there but Sokol circles away.

Sokol has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Schmoe!
Schmoe is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Sokol lands a big elbow.

Sokol stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sokol is defended easily by Schmoe.
Schmoe is looking to counter punch.

Schmoe shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sokol as he avoids it easily.
Sokol shoots for a takedown but Schmoe saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Sokol has a closed guard, preventing Schmoe from standing up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sokol is on top in guard.

Sokol decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Schmoe, up you get!
Schmoe is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Schmoe tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sokol defends well and Schmoe ends up having to push Sokol into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Schmoe is fighting off a takedown attempt but Sokol is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Schmoe to the mat. Schmoe regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Sokol gets to his feet - Schmoe follows without any prompting.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Vasyl Sokol showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Sokol has closed the distance and engaged Schmoe in a clinch.

Sokol's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Schmoe fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sokol to the ground. Schmoe is now in Sokol's guard.

Sokol is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Schmoe presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Sokol jumps guard but Schmoe stands there with Sokol around his waist. Sokol gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Sokol breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Schmoe tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sokol dives in and grabs Schmoe's left leg, looking for a takedown. Schmoe pushes down on Sokol's head and hops out.

Schmoe shoots for a takedown but Sokol saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Schmoe is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Sokol pulls guard successfully.
Sokol is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sokol is controlling the pace.
Sokol throwing shots but Schmoe is blocking nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sokol missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Schmoe tries to get to full guard but Sokol has control of the leg.
Schmoe avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sokol.
Sokol has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Schmoe keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sokol not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Sokol not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Schmoe is trying to control but can't.
Sokol frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Sokol tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Schmoe defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Sokol.
Sokol content just to control the position here.

Sokol postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Schmoe looks a forlorn figure.
Sokol has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Sokol punching from mount but Schmoe doing a good job of avoiding damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Schmoe wants to control but Sokol is having none of it.

Vasyl Sokol comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sokol has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
