PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hiroshi Ekaku (ranked 53 p4p, 417 weight class) and Slammy Neckbreaker (ranked 7 p4p, 54 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Hiroshi Ekaku has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Hiroshi Ekaku seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 11 - 3, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hiroshi Ekaku!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Slammy Neckbreaker!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Ekaku misses

and Neckbreaker counters with a single leg into guard. Ekaku didn't expect that.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Neckbreaker working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Neckbreaker tries to free his leg and advance position but Ekaku is retaining full guard.
Neckbreaker trying to control the position from guard on top but Ekaku is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ekaku looking for a guillotine here but Neckbreaker defends easily.
Neckbreaker is pushing down on Ekaku's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ekaku is fighting to maintain full guard but Neckbreaker has managed to sneak the leg through.
Neckbreaker thows a huge punch but Ekaku dodges it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ekaku sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Neckbreaker throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Neckbreaker has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The referee asks Neckbreaker politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Neckbreaker prefers to stall for the moment though.

Neckbreaker scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Ekaku to see if he's OK.

Neckbreaker wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ekaku keeps working.

Ekaku is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Neckbreaker pulls his head out easily.
Neckbreaker seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Neckbreaker looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ekaku with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ekaku slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Neckbreaker cracks Ekaku with a solid left hand.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Slammy Neckbreaker dominated that round.

The crowd cheers as Ekaku lands an impressive looking overhand right. Neckbreaker doesn't seem phased though.

Neckbreaker has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The fighters circling - Neckbreaker throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Neckbreaker lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Ekaku manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Neckbreaker on his heels. He'll look to pass Neckbreaker's guard now, I'm sure.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neckbreaker is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ekaku.
Ekaku lets loose with a powerful body kick. Neckbreaker will feel that in the morning.

Ekaku shoots in and bounces Neckbreaker off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Ekaku got a little sloppy there for a moment and Neckbreaker has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ekaku has managed to get both his arms back between Neckbreaker's legs - danger averted.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Ekaku is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Neckbreaker is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

After the fight, Hiroshi Ekaku was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
