PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Slash Slingin (ranked 397 p4p, 900 weight class) and Shaquan Woods (ranked 58 p4p, 127 weight class). Slingin comes to the cage accompanied by Addicted to Pain. Woods has chosen LUNIZ -- I GOT 5 ON IT as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Slash Slingin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Shaquan Woods!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Jorge Garcia and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woods misses with a body kick.
Woods throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Slingin's head.
Woods stuffs the takedown.
Slingin checks a leg kick.
Woods throws a head kick but Slingin moves out of range.
Slingin moves out of range of the strikes.
Slingin cracks Woods with a right hand to the side of the head.
Woods misses the body punch
and Slingin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Woods tried to score with a low kick but Slingin checks it.
Woods fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Slingin looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Slingin jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Woods keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Slingin fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Slash Slingin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Woods throws out a leg kick but Slingin moves out of range and Woods only half commits.
Woods's coach down at HPS was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Woods's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Slingin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Woods steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Slingin.
Slingin misses with a straight left.
Woods getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Slingin stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Woods.

Woods lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A slow jab from Slingin misses its intended target.
Woods waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Slingin.
Slingin shoots in but Woods avoids the takedown attempt easily.

A little jabbing left from Woods on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Woods throws the left hand but Slingin avoids the punch easily.
Slingin swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Woods counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Slash Slingin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Slingin throws a lazy uppercut
and Woods counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Woods misses with a wild body shot.

Slingin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Woods to the mat! Woods manages to get full guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Woods has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Slingin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Woods escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Slingin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Slingin with a flurry of punches that miss.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Woods had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Slingin defends it easily.
Slingin advances position into side control!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Slingin wants to control but Woods is keeping him busy.
Slingin advances to full mount.
Woods tries to reverse the position but Slingin maintains control.
Slingin looking to finish Woods with some ground and pound. This is bad for Woods!
Woods can't escape the position.
Slingin lands a couple of good shots and Woods has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Slingin lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Woods is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Slingin is hanging on to Woods's back as he tries to escape.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Slash Slingin will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Woods digs a good body shot into Slingin's ribs.
Slingin misses with a wild body shot.

and Woods counters with a left to the body.

Slingin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Woods throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Slingin escapes and throws Woods's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Slash Slingin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Slingin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Woods has escaped the position, nice work there.

Slingin is looking to take a break and control but Woods is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Slingin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Slingin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The fighters circle momentarily. Woods darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Slingin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Woods's waist but Woods gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Slingin off to one side.
Woods's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Slingin connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Woods scrambles back to his feet.

Woods throws a good cross that connects.

Slingin uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Woods.
Woods has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Slingin fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Woods sprawls well initially but Slingin persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Slingin takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Woods wants to get back to his feet.
Slingin controlling the action here.
Slingin has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Slingin blocks the strikes from Woods.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

I would just about give that final round to Shaquan Woods.
