Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jim Lahey (ranked 24690 p4p, 5266 weight class) and Alexander Andersson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alexander Andersson!

Andersson steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Lahey. That one must have hurt.
Lahey throws a right and a left that Andersson avoids nicely.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Andersson is trying to pull guard but Lahey turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Andersson tries to score a body lock takedown but Lahey shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Andersson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Jim Lahey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Andersson.

Andersson pulls guard effortlessly.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Andersson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lahey can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Andersson seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Lahey is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Lahey manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Lahey is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Lahey decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Lahey thows a body kick. Andersson tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Andersson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Andersson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lahey swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lahey throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Andersson counters with a single leg into guard. Lahey didn't expect that.

Lahey manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Lahey fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Lahey throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

Andersson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lahey swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lahey appears to be looking for a big counter.
Andersson shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Lahey eats them both and turns towards Andersson to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Andersson moves into range and clinches up with Lahey.

Lahey manages to break the clinch.
Andersson avoids the head kick by Lahey.
Andersson is looking for the big counter here.
Lahey is breathing heavily.

Andersson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Andersson lands in his opponent's guard.
Andersson won't allow Lahey to get back to his feet.
Lahey knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Andersson on the ground.
Lahey avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Andersson has gone for a leg lock! Lahey slips out almost immediately though and dives into Andersson's guard.


The fighters are working up against the cage. Andersson manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lahey pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Lahey tries a head kick but it misses.
A right-left combo lands from Lahey.
Andersson avoids the head kick by Lahey.
Andersson tries to clinch there but Lahey circles away.

Andersson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Lahey dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Andersson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Lahey to the ground. Andersson is now in Lahey's guard.

Andersson stands and steps away. Lahey gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Some wild striking there from Lahey.
Lahey throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
A punch combination from Lahey misses.

Andersson shoots in looking for a takedown. Lahey tries to sprawl out of it but Andersson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lahey manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Lahey is looking to land body kicks.
Andersson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Lahey.

Lahey throws a head kick that Andersson semi-blocks.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Andersson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Lahey to the ground. Andersson is now in Lahey's guard.

Andersson has gone for a leg lock! Lahey slips out almost immediately though and dives into Andersson's guard.


Andersson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Lahey is aware though and is defending well.
Lahey has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Andersson wants to stand and escape but Lahey is having none of it.
Andersson is pulling down on Lahey's head. It's preventing any offense from Lahey, at least for the moment.

Andersson is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Andersson pushes Lahey off and scrambles back to his feet.

Andersson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Lahey's half guard.

Andersson blocks a head kick by Lahey.
And Andersson tries to counter it with a takedown but Lahey pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Lahey throws a right and a left that both miss.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Andersson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Andersson winds up and cracks Lahey with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Andersson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Andersson has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Lahey defend it? Andersson steps over the head and cranks it - Lahey is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Andersson!
