Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Abel Fernandez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hans Gruber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Abel Fernandez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hans Gruber!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gruber throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Fernandez is looking to clinch.
Fernandez shoots for a double leg takedown but Gruber sprawls well. He's pushed Fernandez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Fernandez is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Fernandez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Gruber tries to free his leg and advance position but Fernandez is retaining full guard.

Fernandez wants to sweep but no luck.

Gruber is looking to work some ground and pound but Fernandez has wrist control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Gruber shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Gruber is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Fernandez has managed to free his arm - good work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gruber is working for a submission of some sort.

Gruber is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Fernandez has managed to free his arm - good work.
Fernandez is looking to improve his position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Gruber is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Gruber blocks the strikes from Fernandez.
Gruber thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Fernandez tries to close the distance and clinch but Gruber swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gruber connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Fernandez throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Gruber shoots in but Fernandez avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Gruber doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Fernandez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Abel Fernandez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hans Gruber.

Fernandez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gruber's head.
Gruber regains full guard. Nicely done.
Gruber is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Fernandez wants to stand but Gruber is controlling his posture from full guard.

Gruber has his foot on Fernandez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fernandez works his way back into a safe position though.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Fernandez keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Gruber's head.

Hans Gruber dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Fernandez tries to clinch but Gruber is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Gruber counters with a single leg into guard. Fernandez didn't expect that.

Gruber thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Gruber drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gruber jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fernandez pulls Gruber in close to his closed guard and prevents Gruber from doing any damage or advancing position.

Fernandez is working an open guard so Gruber takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

and Fernandez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Fernandez.

Gruber wants to sweep here but Fernandez controlling him for the moment.

Gruber has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fernandez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Gruber had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Fernandez is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Gruber Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Fernandez's back instead.

Fernandez manages to reverse the position and now he's in Gruber's guard. Nice work there by Fernandez.

Gruber is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Fernandez has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Gruber has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Fernandez taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Gruber doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Hans Gruber!
