PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tong Po (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jubei Yagyu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tong Po!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jubei Yagyu!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Po shoots in for a takedown but Yagyu shows good takedown defense.
Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Po.
Yagyu throws a sloppy head kick and Po moves out of range easily.
Po shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Yagyu as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tong Po. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Po fails to land the takedown.
Yagyu will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yagyu changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Po looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A lull in the action here as Yagyu stalls from top position.
Yagyu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Po keeps working.

Yagyu in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Yagyu advances to mount.
Yagyu controlling the pace for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Yagyu is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Yagyu throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Po misses with a takedown attempt

and Yagyu counters with a nice double leg into side control. Po won't be happy with that.

Yagyu wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Po, who protects the arm well.

Yagyu tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Po's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Yagyu decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Yagyu tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Po misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Po wants to clinch.
Yagyu thows a body shot but no joy.
Yagyu tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Po swivels and escapes.

and Yagyu counters with a nice double leg into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jubei Yagyu dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice takedown defense from Yagyu. No joy for Po on that attempt.
Tong Po seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Po avoids the head kick by Yagyu.
Yagyu fails with the takedown.
A lazy left from Po finds it's target.
Po tries for a takedown but Yagyu circles away easily

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
and Yagyu counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Yagyu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Po gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Yagyu.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Po is working for takedown but Yagyu is calmly controlling the position for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Po gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Yagyu counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Po's guard now.
Yagyu works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Yagyu wants to pass to mount but Po is defending the position.
Po is looking for a sweep. Yagyu is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Yagyu is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Po as he works his way to full guard.
Yagyu wants to pass the guard but Po is keeping the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Po tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Po knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Yagyu on the ground.

Po escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Yagyu gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Po is looking to clinch but Yagyu is avoiding it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Yagyu looks for a takedown but Po sprawls well.
Po tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Yagyu swivels and escapes.
Tong Po is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Po shoots in but Yagyu avoids the takedown attempt easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Po slips a jab from Yagyu.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jubei Yagyu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Po misses with a takedown attempt

and Yagyu counters with a nice double leg into side control. Po won't be happy with that.

Yagyu thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Yagyu is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Po will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Yagyu with the ground and pound but Po regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Yagyu controlling the action here.
Po is staying active underneath Yagyu, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Yagyu is looking to pass Po's guard but actually Po recovers to full guard.
Yagyu trying to control the position from guard on top but Po is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Po is adopting a defensive guard.
Yagyu slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Yagyu is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Po has escaped the position, nice work there.

Yagyu goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Po has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Yagyu but great work by Po.

Po is really struggling to control Yagyu but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Yagyu is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Yagyu wants to get back to his feet.
Yagyu tries to get to full guard but Po has control of the leg.
Yagyu is trying to control but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Yagyu moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Po wants to control from the top but Yagyu keeps moving.
Yagyu looking to hit a scissor sweep but Po is one step ahead there.
Tong Po has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Yagyu keeping moving, preventing Po from controlling successfully.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jubei Yagyu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Yagyu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
