PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Greg Malayon (ranked 2066 p4p, 2635 weight class) and Chris Morton (ranked 282 p4p, 342 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Greg Malayon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris Morton!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.

Malayon has Morton up against the cage in a clinch.
Morton tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Malayon jumps guard and drags Morton to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Malayon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Morton manages to get himself to full guard.

Malayon tries to free his leg and advance position but Morton is retaining full guard.
Morton can't keep his opponent in guard - Malayon advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Morton kicks Malayon off and gets back to his feet.

Morton stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Morton wants it to stay on the feet.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Morton has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Morton throws a nice looking combination but Malayon bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Morton tries to bum rush Malayon with a series of wild strikes but Malayon uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Malayon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Morton can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Morton wants to get up but he can't break Malayon's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Morton decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Malayon, up you get!
Malayon darts in looking for a takedown but Morton gets double underhooks and turns Malayon into the cage.
Morton lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Morton fails to land with a series of punches.
Morton swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Morton looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Malayon has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Morton throws a nice looking combination but Malayon bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Malayon shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Morton sprawls well. Morton wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Malayon gets slowly back to his feet.
Morton is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Greg Malayon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Morton shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Malayon eats them both and turns towards Morton to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Chris Morton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Morton is controlling an arm, preventing Malayon from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Malayon goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Morton is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Morton working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Morton has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Malayon is proving hard to escape from.

Malayon is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Morton is aware though and is defending well.
Morton wants to stand and escape but instead Malayon has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Morton explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Morton gets tackled into the cage by Malayon. Malayon maintains the clinch.

Malayon is trying to pull guard but Morton turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Malayon jumps into guard, dragging Morton to the mat.
Morton wanted to stand there but Malayon had control of the position.
Greg Malayon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Malayon has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Morton should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Malayon has tightened it up now! Morton should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Greg Malayon!
Greg Malayon decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
