PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yoji Anjo Anjo (ranked 3529 p4p, 24560 weight class) and Joe Dixon (ranked 460 p4p, 694 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yoji Anjo Anjo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Dixon!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Aafke Stam and Paul Aken.

Dixon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dixon wants it to stay on the feet.
Despite the aggression on Dixon's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Anjo looks to clinch
and Dixon counters with a head kick.
Anjo misses with the combination.
Anjo shoots for a double leg takedown but Dixon sprawls well. He's pushed Anjo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Dixon only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Anjo shoots in and drives through. Dixon sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yoji Anjo Anjo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Anjo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dixon looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Dixon is pushing Anjo's head away, looking to escape. Anjo manages to hold on to the position though.

Anjo looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Check out the look on Anjo's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Anjo has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Dixon!
Anjo won't let Dixon get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Dixon in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Dixon is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Anjo is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Dixon is surviving well by controlling Anjo's body position as best he can.

Dixon is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Anjo postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Dixon looks a forlorn figure.
Anjo lands a big elbow.
Anjo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Anjo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Dixon is in a horrible position here. Anjo smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Dixon is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Anjo stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Anjo pushes Dixon up against the cage in a clinch.

Anjo has Dixon pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Anjo pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Dixon tumbling to the mat - Anjo dives into Dixon's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dixon wants to get back to his feet but Anjo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Dixon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Anjo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Dixon is working an open guard so Anjo takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Anjo shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Anjo gets in close and instigates a clinch.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Anjo is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Dixon preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Anjo not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Anjo looks to clinch
and Anjo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Anjo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Dixon counters with a low kick, right behind Anjo 's knee.
Anjo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Anjo dives in and grabs Dixon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Dixon pushes down on Anjo's head and hops out.
Dixon is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yoji Anjo Anjo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Anjo is defended easily by Dixon.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dixon tries a head kick but it misses.
Anjo half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Anjo misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Anjo gets control of Dixon's arms and successfully pulls guard. Anjo will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Anjo is on top in guard.

Anjo tries to bum rush Dixon with a series of wild strikes but Dixon uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Yoji Anjo Anjo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Anjo wants to clinch up but Dixon keeps it at a distance.
Dixon wants to counter with a clinch but Anjo pushes him away.
Anjo fails with the takedown
and Dixon makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Yoji Anjo Anjo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Anjo tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Dixon is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Anjo shoots for a double leg takedown but Dixon sprawls well. He's pushed Anjo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Dixon counters with a left and a right that stings Anjo.
Anjo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Dixon but Dixon pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Anjo gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Anjo takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Anjo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dixon as he avoids it easily.
Dixon displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Anjo.
Dixon looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Dixon scores with a head kick. Anjo tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Dixon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Anjo moves in looking to clinch but Dixon pushes him off.
Nice takedown defense from Dixon. No joy for Anjo on that attempt.
Dixon has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Anjo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dixon flicks out a counter leg kick but Anjo steps away.

Dixon has a couple of punches blocked by Anjo.

Anjo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dixon swats away the attempt to clinch by Anjo.

Anjo looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Anjo.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dixon's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Anjo connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Dixon scrambles back to his feet.
Anjo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dixon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Anjo somewhat.

and Dixon counters with a one-two to the body.

Anjo moves in looking to clinch but Dixon pushes him off.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Anjo.
Dixon tries to counter by closing the distance.
Anjo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Dixon counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Dixon closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Dixon has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dixon tries to land knees in the clinch but Anjo avoids the damage to the body.
Anjo has Dixon pressed against the cage, preventing Dixon from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Anjo keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Dixon's efforts to push away.
Dixon is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joe Dixon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dixon has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
