PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alec Burns (ranked 2212 p4p, 3595 weight class) and Baby Slice (ranked 24 p4p, 35 weight class). Burns kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Alberto Del Rio theme song. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alec Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Baby Slice!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Slice stalks Burns and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Burns's face. Burns staggers backwards, shaken.
Slice tried to score with a low kick but Burns checks it.
Burns gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Slice cracks Burns with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Burns blocks the body kick.
Burns looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Slice avoids the head kick by Burns.
And Slice tries to counter it with a takedown but Burns pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Burns takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Slice takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Slice on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
A right-left combo lands from Slice.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Slice gets caught flat footed, as Burns shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slice being controlled here, momentarily.
Burns prevents Slice from getting back to his feet.

Burns throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Burns slips nicely into half guard.

Burns gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Slice throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Burns counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Burns.
Burns controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Slice really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Burns. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Burns looking to pass the guard.
Slice is looking to stand up but Burns isn't so interested in that idea.
Slice told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Burns is stalling in the full guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Burns drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Burns jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Burns slips a straight right by Slice.
Burns throws a quick counter head kick but Slice was just out of range.

Burns closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Slice is trying to escape the position but Burns is controlling the position.
Slice is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Burns is controlling him well.

Burns tries to move into full mount but can't pass Slice's legs.
Burns postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Burns slows the pace down.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Slice feints a jab promting Burns to slip. Slice then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Burns slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Burns misses with an attempted mid kick.
Burns throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Burns looking to score a takedown here. Slice is defending well but Burns drives through and ends up in Slice's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Burns with a flurry of punches that miss.
Burns controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Burns might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Burns throws a big right hand that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Baby Slice will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Burns throws a looping overhand right but Slice ducks down to avoid it.
Slice changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Slice misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Burns.
Burns throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Slice.
Slice works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Slice is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Slice uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Burns.
Slice throws a nice looking combination but Burns bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Burns smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Slice misses with a body shot.
Slice lands a head shot.

Burns throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Slice tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Burns is in Slice's guard.
Burns is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Burns seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Slice for as long as he can get away with.
Slice is looking to stand up but Burns isn't so interested in that idea.

Burns looking to pass the guard.
Burns engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Burns passes Slice's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Burns stalling.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Slice keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Slice makes his way to full guard, as Burns worked for a kimura.
Burns is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Burns continues to stall.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Slice throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Burns stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Burns lands with a kick to the temple. Slice shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
A right-left combo lands from Slice.
Slice misses with a straight right.
Slice avoids the head kick by Burns.
It seemed like Slice was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Burns throws a head kick that misses.
Slice connects with a single shot there.
Slice tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Burns was well out of range. Poor timing from Slice.
Slice chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Burns can pounce on him.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Burns will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Burns counters by moving into the clinch.
Burns wants to take the fight to the mat but Slice manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Burns escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Slice misses with a body shot.
Burns avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Burns lands a head kick. Slice smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Slice throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Burns stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Burns checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Burns seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Slice lands a two punch combo.
Baby Slice seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A low kick from Slice is predictable there
and Burns counters with a head kick.

Burns shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Slice's guard.
Burns pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Slice is keeping the position for now.
Burns is pushing down on Slice's leg trying to pass to half guard. Slice is fighting to maintain full guard but Burns has managed to sneak the leg through.

That was a close second round but I would say that Alec Burns will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Burns throws a chopping leg kick but Slice manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

and Burns counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Slice is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Slice scores with a jab to the body.
A low kick from Burns is predictable there
and Burns takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Burns throws a wild body kick that Slice sees coming a mile off.
Slice misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Slice scores with a jab to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Slice drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Slice takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Baby Slice seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Slice throws the left hand but Burns avoids the punch easily.

Burns shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Slice is trying to defend but Burns finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Slice catches Burns with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Burns postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Burns throws a big right hand that misses.
Burns is stalling in the full guard.

Burns slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Burns lands a nice forearm strike.

Burns swings around for an armbar but Slice sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Burns's guard.

Burns pushes Slice off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Slice just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromBurns.
Burns tries to move into range but Slice moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Burns lands with a straight right. Slice didn't see that one coming.
Baby Slice is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Slice takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Slice is trying to escape back to his feet but Burns uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Burns is staying tight to Slice's torso, preventing him from escaping.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Alec Burns.
I think Burns has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
