PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alan Man (ranked 4756 p4p, 4869 weight class) and Gerald Champlain (ranked 0 p4p, 485 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Champlain keeps the fight on the outside.
Champlain wants to counter with a clinch but Man pushes him away.
Champlain getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
A combination from Champlain does no damage.
Man takes one to the chin there.
Champlain lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Champlain throws out a counter right but Man avoids it with no problem.

Man fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Champlain, pushing him back against the cage.

Man manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Champlain manages to get himself to full guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Man prevents Champlain from improving his position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Champlain can do anything to dispel that myth.

Man is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Champlain doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Man.

Man is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Champlain sees it coming and defends easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Man passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Champlain!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Man swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Champlain is now in Man's guard. A big mistake from Man there, giving up the dominant position!

Man had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Champlain defends it easily.

Man has his foot on Champlain's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Champlain works his way back into a safe position though.
Champlain content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Champlain trying to control the position from guard on top but Man is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Man has momentary wrist control but Champlain slips an elbow through the middle.

Man looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Champlain lands a couple of digs.

Man working for submissions but it's allowed Champlain to get to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gerald Champlain will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Man has closed the distance and engaged Champlain in a clinch.
Still in the clinch, Champlain scores with a nice short uppercut.
Champlain tries to break the clinch but Man is controlling the position.
Champlain lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Champlain has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Man uses from the top position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Man thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Man postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Champlain is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Man, into his guard.

Man working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Champlain has passed into half guard!

Champlain must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Man escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Champlain gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Champlain has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Man to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Champlain is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Man pulls down on the head and he's put Champlain to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Alan Man!
Alan Man decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
