PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kenji Takahashi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Glen Burnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Takahashi comes to the cage accompanied by Tokyo Drift. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenji Takahashi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Glen Burnett!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takahashi shoots in but Burnett avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Takahashi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Burnett moves away.
Horrible takedown by Takahashi or perhaps it was just good defense by Burnett which made him look bad.

Takahashi looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Burnett tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Takahashi thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Burnett's head.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Takahashi thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A punch lands to the side of Burnett 's head but he takes it in his stride.

and Burnett counters by clinching up.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kenji Takahashi. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Takahashi has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Burnett regains guard immediately.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Burnett has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Takahashi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Burnett escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Takahashi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Takahashi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Takahashi stays in close to Burnett's body and controls the position.

Takahashi has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Burnett is proving hard to escape from.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Takahashi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Burnett with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Takahashi passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Burnett!

Burnett tries to reverse the position but Takahashi maintains control.

Takahashi is landing with some decent strikes but Burnett is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Takahashi drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Takahashi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Burnett has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Takahashi is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Burnett.
Burnett is not content to let Takahashi control the position.
Takahashi lands a decent elbow from side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Takahashi is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Burnett's shoulder. That is not cool.
Burnett is not content to let Takahashi control the position.
Burnett is trying to control Takahashi's posture but Takahashi avoids it.

Takahashi is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Burnett knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Burnett takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Takahashi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Burnett looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Burnett shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Burnett is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Takahashi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Takahashi lands in his opponent's guard.

Burnett escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Takahashi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

You get the feeling that Burnett really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Burnett is desperately trying to improve his position but Takahashi has a good base and remains in mount.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Glen Burnett has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kenji Takahashi is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Burnett is in all sorts of trouble here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kenji Takahashi showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Takahashi, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
