PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tsuyoi Kakuto (ranked 1884 p4p, 2399 weight class) and Kasey McRobbie (ranked 257 p4p, 314 weight class). Kakuto's entrance music is Gorillaz-Dirty Harry. A fine choice. Kasey McRobbie will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tsuyoi Kakuto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Kasey McRobbie!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Shimada.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Kakuto has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
McRobbie stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Kakuto is trying to trip McRobbie. He has hold of a leg but McRobbie is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Kakuto persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

McRobbie is wriggling around but Kakuto manages to pass to half guard.
Kakuto seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McRobbie tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Kakuto manages to move to mount!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

McRobbie tries to lock up and control but Kakuto gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
McRobbie wants to get back to full guard.
McRobbie tries to kick Kakuto off but Kakuto keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
McRobbie tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Kakuto manages to move to mount!

McRobbie wants to try and get back to his feet.

McRobbie sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

McRobbie tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Tsuyoi Kakuto is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
McRobbie throws a hook but Kakuto avoids it easily.
Kasey McRobbie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McRobbie is looking to chop away at Kakuto's legs.
McRobbie has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Kakuto is landing a low percentage of strikes.

It looks like Tsuyoi Kakuto has been cut.

Kakuto feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

McRobbie is looking for a triangle here but Kakuto uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Kakuto fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

McRobbie bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
McRobbie must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

McRobbie is looking for a sweep. Kakuto is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Kakuto rushes McRobbie and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
A nice glancing elbow lands by McRobbie.

Kakuto wants the takedown. McRobbie is fighting it off but Kakuto persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in McRobbie's guard against the cage.

McRobbie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kakuto can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

McRobbie throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Kakuto escapes and throws McRobbie's legs to the side, diving into side control!
McRobbie is not content to let Kakuto control the position.

Kakuto looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

McRobbie can't do much from the bottom here.
Kakuto gets to mount! McRobbie was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Kakuto avoids the attempt from McRobbie to control.
Tsuyoi Kakuto is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kakuto sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
McRobbie keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Kakuto takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Tsuyoi Kakuto showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kakuto, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
