PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Migel Motta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Migel Motta!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Jones fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Motta sprawls well initially but Jones persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Jones seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Motta does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Jones is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Motta defends it well.
Motta really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Motta is trying to escape back to his feet but Jones uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Jones tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Jones misses with the ground and pound.

Jones decides to stand up, so the ref orders Motta to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Motta lands with a right hand.

Jones instigates a clinch.
Jones has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Motta is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Jones goes for a takedown attempt but Motta pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Motta misses with a head kick.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Motta tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Motta manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Motta darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Jones is looking to control Motta's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jones avoid being mounted?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Motta is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Jones works his way to full guard. Good work.
Jones throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Motta sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Jones striking off his back but it's not causing Motta any problems.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones is trying to keep Motta in close.
Motta scoring with punches to the head and body.
Motta is stalling in the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Motta from controlling successfully.
Motta must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Motta tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Motta is in trouble now - Jones has advanced to mount!
Motta wants to hold on but Jones pushes him away.
Jones lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Jones dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Jones wants to clinch up but Motta keeps it at a distance.
The fight stays on the outside here - Motta looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Motta slips a jab and a cross from Jones.
Jones tries for a takedown but Motta circles away easily

so Motta counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Motta looking to pass the guard.
Motta connects with a couple of short punches.
Jones not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Motta controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Motta is looking to advance position but Jones has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Motta tries to improve his position but Jones has taken his back! Jones has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Motta tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Jones pushes Motta away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Chris Jones!
