Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mikey Day (ranked 948 p4p, 982 weight class) and Edson Bidon Barbosa (ranked 110 p4p, 116 weight class). Edson Bidon Barbosa has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mikey Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edson Bidon Barbosa!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Day drives through with a takedown into guard.
Day stops Barbosa from standing up.
Day slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Day trying to control but Barbosa is working from the bottom.
We've been hearing that Day has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Day looking to pass the guard.
Day is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Day is looking to advance position but Barbosa has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Day sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
It looks like Barbosa is going to stand back up.
Day is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Barbosa tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Day.
Barbosa is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A slow jab from Day misses its intended target.
Barbosa throws out a counter right but Day avoids it with no problem.
Day wants to slow Barbosa down by chopping away at his legs.
Day misses with a body shot.

Barbosa gets tackled into the cage by Day. Day maintains the clinch.
Barbosa misses with a short punch on the inside.
Barbosa's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Barbosa throws a punch but it's blocked by Day.

Day pulls Barbosa into guard.
Barbosa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Barbosa wants to stand but Day has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Day pulls Barbosa in close to prevent any damage.

Barbosa wants to stand but Day is controlling his posture from full guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mikey Day will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Day gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Barbosa lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Day drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Barbosa gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Barbosa goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Barbosa lands a right hand.

Day is trying to trip Barbosa. He has hold of a leg but Barbosa is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Day persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Day wants to control from the top but Barbosa keeps moving.
Barbosa is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Day is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Day stands and throws Barbosa's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Day working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Barbosa is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Day asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Barbosa gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Day wants to control the pace but Barbosa is squirming around nicely.
Day is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Barbosa can do to turn this around?
Barbosa is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Day controlling the pace for now.
Day won't let Barbosa get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Day takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Day seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Barbosa for as long as he can get away with.
Day landing strikes from the mount and Barbosa is in trouble!

Day looking to control and managing it successfully.
Day throws a sloppy strike and Barbosa uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Barbosa has ended up in Day's guard.

Mikey Day dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Day takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Day shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Barbosa pinned against the cage. Barbosa gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Barbosa avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Barbosa takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Mikey Day seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Barbosa fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Day manages to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Barbosa connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Barbosa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Day moves away.
Day was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Nice straight punches there by Barbosa. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Barbosa.

Barbosa lands a right hand that snaps the head of Day backwards.

Day is rocked!
Barbosa throws a punch but it's blocked by Day.
Oh Day is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Day blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Barbosa lands a right hand.
Barbosa is stalling here.
Barbosa fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

A nice right hand lands inside from Barbosa.
Barbosa is looking to control Day's arms but Day gets an underhook and turns him. Now Barbosa has his back to the cage.
Day tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Barbosa just stands there and leans against the cage.
Day's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

This has been an exciting period of action!

Edson Bidon Barbosa seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Barbosa pushes Day against the cage. Barbosa is working some dirty boxing. Barbosa pushes off with a quick right hook! Day goes down! Day tries to stand but stumbles back to his kness! Barbosa moves in to finish and the ref steps in to prevent any more damage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Edson Bidon Barbosa!
Edson Bidon Barbosa decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
