PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Monty Pyke (ranked 3933 p4p, 6638 weight class) and Bison Jury (ranked 447 p4p, 600 weight class). Pyke comes into the arena with Uptown Top Ranking blaring out of the sound system. Monty Pyke has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Monty Pyke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bison Jury!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.

Jury scores with the left hand. Pyke knows he should have avoided that one.
Jury throws a nice looking combination but Pyke bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Pyke looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Jury is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Pyke shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jury's guard.

Jury's coach down at 3Band MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Jury's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Pyke shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jury pinned against the cage. Jury gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Jury! But no joy.
Monty Pyke seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pyke wants to clinch but Jury slips to the side
and Jury counters with a straight right hand.
Jury rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Pyke moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Pyke changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jury looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jury is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Pyke asserts his dominance and retains side control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Pyke shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jury sprawls well. Jury wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pyke gets slowly back to his feet.
Pyke takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Bison Jury is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

A close round but Bison Jury will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Pyke is trying to control. Jury wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Pyke connects with a nice short shot to Jury's temple.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pyke keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jury's head.
Pyke makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Pyke tries to score with a low kick but Jury moves his leg out of the way.

Pyke closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jury quickly recovers to half guard.

Pyke seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Pyke walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Jury checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Pyke walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Pyke tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jury swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Pyke takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Jury works over Pyke's head and body with a nice combination.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jury dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Jury stuns Pyke with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
A decent looking cross lands there for Jury.
Jury has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Oooooh!!! Jury has knocked Pyke down with a huge combo! Jury steps away and waves a wobbly Pyke back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Pyke is rocked!
Monty Pyke is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jury goes for a small jab and connects. Now Jury goes in closer pressing the issue. Left hook, right straight! Pyke stumbles back but Jury runs in with a huge uppercut knocking Pyke to the ground! What a finish! You have to wonder if Pyke will ever be the same after a knockout like that.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Bison Jury!
Our winner, Bison Jury, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
Monty Pyke was interviewed post fight and said 'Well damn, that's pretty rough. Oh well, I'll be back better than ever soon enough. I'm still after that title.'.
