Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Boxer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mauricio Payne!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Anthony Taglia and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Payne shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Boxer pinned against the cage. Boxer gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Boxer has Payne up against the cage in a clinch.
Boxer lands with a right to the head.

Boxer gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Boxer wants to stand up but Payne has a hold of him and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Payne might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Boxer haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Boxer seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Boxer is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Payne lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Payne accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Payne tries to stand but Boxer is controlling from the bottom.
Boxer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Payne on the ground.

Payne throws a big elbow that misses.
Payne is looking to stand up but Boxer won't let him.
Boxer working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Payne.

Boxer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Payne forces his way into half guard.
Payne is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Boxer is refusing to be controlled, as Payne sits in half guard.

Payne seems to be looking for submissions.
Payne wants to lay and pray for a moment but Boxer keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Payne thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Boxer's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boxer controlling the position for now.
Payne frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Payne postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Boxer looks a forlorn figure.
Payne scoring with strikes but Boxer is staying in there.
Payne putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Payne scores with a couple of good head shots there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Boxer wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Well, with Payne on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Boxer is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Payne's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Payne thows a leg kick but Boxer checks it

and Boxer counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Payne!
Boxer taking a breather here.
Payne is looking for a sweep.
Payne throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Payne regains half guard.
Boxer stops Payne from getting back to his feet.

Payne tries to roll over but Boxer keeps him under control.

Payne misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Payne wants to get back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boxer misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A head kick misses from Payne.

Boxer shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Payne's guard.
Payne has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Payne looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Payne is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Boxer has his hands clasped together but Payne extends and breaks Boxer's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Payne.
