PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ken Mokoto (ranked 7256 p4p, 7847 weight class) and Maximillian Powers (ranked 645 p4p, 669 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ken Mokoto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maximillian Powers!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Reed Andrews and Joseph Jones.

Mokoto shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mokoto was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Powers tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mokoto has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Powers's body.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Powers is keeping busy.
Powers controlling Mokoto 's hands.
Powers wants to escape the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Powers looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Powers trying to survive by controlling the hands.
Powers staying busy and making it hard for Mokoto to control.
Mokoto misses with an elbow to the head.
Mokoto struggling to keep hold of the position.

Powers covering up well under a barage of strikes.
Mokoto has the hooks in. Powers is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Mokoto is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Powers looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Mokoto is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Powers has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Powers staying busy and making it hard for Mokoto to control.

Mokoto tries to keep control of the position but Powers is staying busy.

Mokoto is looking for the choke from the back position but Powers is controlling his hands well.
Powers wants to get back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mokoto is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Powers is defending well though. Mokoto let's go of the attempt for now.

That's time! Mokoto's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Powers has a takedown stuffed.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mokoto enables Powers to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mokoto manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Powers throws an elbow that misses. Mokoto uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Powers's guard. Nice move by Mokoto!

Powers wants to sweep here but Mokoto controlling him for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mokoto sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Powers's guard.

Powers has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mokoto is working away from the top position though.
Mokoto wants to lay and pray for a moment but Powers keeps working.
Mokoto is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Powers is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Mokoto thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Powers's head.

Mokoto seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Powers does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mokoto has managed to clinch.
Mokoto could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Mokoto wants to break the clinch but can't.

Mokoto pulls guard successfully.
Powers advances to half guard.

Mokoto is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Powers pulls his head out easily.

Mokoto is looking to control Powers's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mokoto avoid being mounted?
Mokoto is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Powers can do to turn this around?
Powers throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Mokoto is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mokoto tries to get to full guard but Powers has control of the leg.

Mokoto won't allow Powers to pass to mount.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Powers waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Mokoto.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Mokoto dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Mokoto closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Mokoto has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Powers avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Powers breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mokoto moves to clinch but Powers breaks away

and Powers counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Ken Mokoto overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Powers looks to land a strike but Mokoto avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Mokoto tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Powers trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Powers in particular looking to stall.
Mokoto is controlling Powers's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Powers looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Powers passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mokoto!
Mokoto is in all sorts of trouble here.
Powers controlling the pace for now.
Mokoto prevents any damage by holding on tight.

Mokoto is trying to escape the mount.
Mokoto sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Powers passes to full mount!
Mokoto wants to try and get back to his feet.
Powers controlling the pace for now.
Mokoto tries to hold on but Powers pushes him away.

Mokoto slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Powers tries to pass to full mount but Mokoto defends it.
Powers tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Mokoto.

Powers wants to work for an arm triangle but Mokoto is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Powers is just content to waste time from the top position. Mokoto takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Maximillian Powers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ken Mokoto is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Maximillian Powers comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mokoto has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
