Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matheus Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Wilker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matheus Costa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Wilker!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Paulo Santos and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wilker clinches up against the cage.
Costa looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Wilker breaks the clinch.
Costa takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Costa shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wilker as he avoids it easily.

Matheus Costa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Wilker.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Wilker had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Costa is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Wilker Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Costa's back instead.

Wilker has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Costa has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Costa tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Costa wants to control but Wilker is having none of it.
Wilker is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Costa can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Wilker is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Costa can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Costa is controlling an arm, preventing Wilker from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Wilker looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wilker shoots in for a takedown but Costa shows good takedown defense.

and Wilker counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Costa's guard now.

Wilker thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Costa will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Costa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Costa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wilker on the ground.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wilker accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Costa has taken the fight to the clinch.

so Costa counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Wilker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Costa gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Costa is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Wilker gets his way!

Jose Wilker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Wilker slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Costa.
Costa is trying to stand.

Wilker is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Costa has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wilker is working away from the top position though.

Wilker is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Costa is just riding it out for now. Wilker eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Costa tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Wilker paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Costa has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wilker is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Wilker feints and then cracks Costa's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Costa down.

Jose Wilker is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Costa lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Matheus Costa showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Wilker has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
