Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Geezer Bird (ranked 6770 p4p, 198 weight class) and Terry Gehrig (ranked 7328 p4p, 137 weight class). Terry Gehrig has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Geezer Bird's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Geezer Bird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Terry Gehrig !
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Sandra Marshall and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bird tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gehrig swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Bird wants to clinch up but Gehrig keeps it at a distance.
Bird sets himself, and Gehrig steps forward looking for the clinch! Bird avoids it this time.

Gehrig has closed the distance and engaged Bird in a clinch.
Bird swings wildly with an uppercut but Gehrig uses good head movement to avoid it.

Gehrig turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Gehrig decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Bird darts in looking for a takedown but Gehrig gets double underhooks and turns Bird into the cage.
A shot to the liver by Gehrig . Beautiful body shot.
Bird is breathing heavily.
Some wild striking there from Gehrig .
Gehrig misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Gehrig has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Gehrig throws a sloppy head kick and Bird moves out of range easily.
Bird fails with the takedown
and Gehrig counters with a right hand to the body.

Gehrig lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.


It looks like Geezer Bird has been cut.
Gehrig looks for the body kick but Bird saw that one coming.
Bird is looking to counter punch.

Gehrig gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Gehrig lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like Gehrig might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

and Gehrig counters by clinching up.

Bird is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Bird is trying to control the position but Gehrig postures up.
Bird can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gehrig controls the pace.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Gehrig gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Bird looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Gehrig misses with a head kick.
Bird looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gehrig is fending him off so far but Bird persists. Nope, Gehrig circles away and we're back to standing.

Gehrig shoots in and gets a takedown into Bird's guard.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Gehrig gets a double leg takedown into Bird's guard.
Bird wants to get back to his feet but Gehrig passes into half guard.

Gehrig throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gehrig looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Bird keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gehrig not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Still in half guard, Gehrig seems content to control.

Bird wants to improve his position but Gehrig is controlling well.

Gehrig is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gehrig is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bird is trying to escape back to his feet but Gehrig uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Gehrig moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Gehrig tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Bird tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gehrig sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bird somewhat.
A countering left hand to the body from Gehrig misses.

Gehrig gets a double leg takedown into Bird's guard.
Gehrig pushing down on Bird's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Gehrig stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Bird to get to his feet.

Gehrig shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bird is trying to defend but Gehrig finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Gehrig really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bird. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gehrig is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bird defends it well.
Gehrig has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Gehrig has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Terry Gehrig showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Gehrig pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Geezer Bird seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gehrig gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Gehrig has Bird pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Gehrig pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Bird tumbling to the mat - Gehrig dives into Bird's guard.

Gehrig stands and steps away. Bird gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Bird gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gehrig to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Bird is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Gehrig dives into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gehrig is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bird has escaped the position, nice work there.
Gehrig is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Bird's shoulder. That is not cool.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Gehrig stands up and beckons Bird to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gehrig clinches up against the cage.

Gehrig manages to break the clinch.
Bird fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
And Gehrig tries to counter it with a takedown but Bird pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Gehrig bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bird is trying to escape the position but Gehrig is controlling the position.
Gehrig sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Bird is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Bird regains half guard, as Gehrig was trying to land strikes.
Gehrig is taking a breather. Bird says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gehrig not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Gehrig throwing shots but Bird is blocking nicely.
Gehrig thows a huge punch but Bird dodges it nicely.

Gehrig postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Bird to stand up.
Geezer Bird has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Bird gets caught flat footed, as Gehrig shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Gehrig stays in close to Bird's body and controls the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gehrig 's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

And that's the end of the fight!
Terry Gehrig comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gehrig has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
