PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Huey Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Coleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Huey Dixon!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Dixon looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Coleman shoots in and bounces Dixon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Dixon tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Dixon looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Coleman passes into side control.
Coleman trying to control the action but Dixon is working from the bottom.
Coleman controlling from side mount.
Dixon is trying to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Coleman connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Dixon some visible discomfort.
Dixon is letting Coleman control him for a moment.

Coleman decides to stand up, so the ref orders Dixon to his feet.
Coleman throws a leg kick but Dixon sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Horrible takedown by Coleman or perhaps it was just good defense by Dixon which made him look bad.
Dixon wants to clinch.

Coleman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dixon's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Coleman tries to free his leg and advance position but Dixon is retaining full guard.

Dixon has an active guard here but Coleman has managed to pass into half guard.
Dixon looks gassed!
Coleman is nestled in close to Dixon, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coleman looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Coleman trying to control the action but Dixon is working from the bottom.

Coleman is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Dixon tries to get to full guard but Coleman has control of the leg.

Coleman is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Coleman seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Coleman wants to control but Dixon is keeping him busy.
Dixon has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Coleman is working away from the top position though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dixon gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Coleman counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Dixon is refusing to be controlled, as Coleman sits in half guard.
Dixon strikes from the bottom but Coleman uses the opportunity to move to side control.
Dixon gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Coleman landing strikes, looking to finish!
Coleman looking to control and managing it successfully.

Coleman is going olschool here, as he tries to force Dixon to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Dixon shrugs it off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dixon doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Coleman counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dixon won't be happy with that.

Coleman decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Dixon takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Mark Coleman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Coleman looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Coleman trying to control the position from guard on top but Dixon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Coleman forces his way into half guard.
Dixon is trying to control but can't.

Dixon wants to control but Coleman passes into side.
Dixon is looking for a sweep.
Dixon is pushing Coleman's head away, looking to escape. Coleman manages to hold on to the position though.

Dixon sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Dixon wants to improve his position but Coleman is controlling well.

Coleman escapes and gets back to his feet.

Coleman throws a series of punches but Dixon avoids them all with ease.
Dixon throws a sloppy head kick and Coleman moves out of range easily.
Coleman wants to clinch
and Dixon counters with a one-two to the body.
A right-left combo lands from Dixon.
Coleman throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Coleman closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Dixon is trying to control Coleman's posture but Coleman avoids it.
Dixon is pushing Coleman's head away, looking to escape. Coleman manages to hold on to the position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Coleman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dixon keeps working.
Dixon tries to buck Coleman off but Coleman is having none of it.

Coleman decides to stand back up.
Dixon scores with a three punch combo!

Coleman has taken the fight to the clinch.

Coleman pulls guard successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dixon trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Coleman avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Coleman is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Dixon working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Coleman's head.
Dixon pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Coleman is keeping the position for now.
Dixon would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Coleman can't keep his opponent in guard - Dixon advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Coleman dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Dixon wants to control the pace but Coleman is squirming around nicely.
Coleman is looking to get to half guard.
Coleman is working hard here to advance position.
Dixon landing strikes, looking to finish!
Dixon sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Coleman takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Coleman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Coleman is looking to get to half guard.
Dixon misses with a head shot.
Dixon throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Dixon trying to control but Coleman is having none of it.
Dixon prevents Coleman from getting the reversal.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Coleman taking shots to the head.
Dixon throwing strikes here but Coleman is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Coleman is squirming around, avoiding Dixon's attempts to control the action.
Mark Coleman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Coleman can't escape the position.

Dixon has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Coleman is forced to tap!
