PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Big Fist (ranked 5523 p4p, 4962 weight class) and Paddy Gately (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and Chris Edwards.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fist lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gately circles away quickly and effectively.
Fist lands a body shot.
Fist tests Gately's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Gately takes one to the side of the head.
Fist will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Fist thuds a left hand into Gately's body.
Fist scores with a crisp jab that stopped Gately in his tracks.
Gately moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Gately throws a wild body kick that Fist sees coming a mile off.
Gately shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gately takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Gately fails with a takedown attempt.
A lazy left from Fist finds it's target.

Gately throws a sloppy head kick and Fist moves out of range easily.

Fist gets caught flat footed, as Gately shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Fist is wriggling around but Gately manages to pass to half guard.

Gately looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Fist with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Gately escapes and gets back to his feet.
Gately moves away from the strike by Fist.
Fist connects with a nice looking jab.
Gately fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Fist avoids it really well and circles away.
Nice uppercut lands for Fist. That snapped Gately's head back.

Fist avoids the head kick by Gately.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fist lands a nice hook to Gately's body. Gately takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Gately shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fist as he jumps to the side.
Big Fist has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paddy Gately.

Fist keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Fist connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Gately's hands.

Fist cracks Gately with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Gately darts in looking for a takedown but Fist gets double underhooks and turns Gately into the cage.

and Gately takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Fist connects with a nice looking jab.

Fist throws a right and a left that Gately avoids nicely.
Gately throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fist's waist but Fist gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gately off to one side.
Fist fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Gately on the side of the head.
Fist scores with a jab to the body.
Gately takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gately takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Fist connects with a crisp jab.
A cross from Fist lands.
Fist scores with a hook to the body. Gately takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Fist feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Gatelys jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Fist cracks Gately with a good jab.

Gately gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Fist is trying to force a seperation but Gately has the dominant position.
Fist wants to stall.

Gately breaks from the clinch.
Gately dives in and grabs Fist's left leg, looking for a takedown. Fist pushes down on Gately's head and hops out.
Fist is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gately takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Gately clinches with his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Big Fist dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Fist jabs Gately right on the nose. Gately blinks but takes it well.
Gately has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
The fighters circling - Fist throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Fist misses with a straight right.
Fist rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gately moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gately shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Fist sprawls well. Fist wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gately gets slowly back to his feet.
Gately needs to keep his hands up - Fist had a free shot at his head there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gately moves forwards but Fist connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Fist throws a lazy right hand but Gately sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Gately gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Gately takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Gately slips a straight right by Fist.

Gately moves into the clinch.
Fist wants to stall.
Fist misses with a punch on the inside.
Fist has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Gately.
Fist fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Gately slowing the pace effectively.

Gately's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gately will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Big Fist has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paddy Gately.

Gately moves into the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Fist.

Gately pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Fist fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Fist tests Gately's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Fist throws a looping overhand right but Gately ducks down to avoid it.
Big Fist is winning the standup battle so far.
Gately has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Fist finds it's way round the side to connect with Gately's head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fist lands a nice shot that snaps Gately's head back.

Gately clinches with his opponent.
Gately works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Fist is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gately can do to turn this around?
Fist misses with a punch on the inside.

Gately pulls guard.
Gately lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Gately slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Gately working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Gately is stalling in the full guard.

Gately is putting a hurting on Fist here, landing some big shots from side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Gately decides to stand up, so the ref orders Fist to his feet.
Paddy Gately is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gately shoots in for a takedown but Fist shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Gately misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Fist is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Gately drives through and clinches with Fist against the cage.

That was a close second round but I would say that Big Fist will probably get the nod.
That's time! Fist's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Gately darts in looking for a takedown but Fist gets double underhooks and turns Gately into the cage.

Fist connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Gately momentarily.

Fist lands with a cross.
Fist connects with a looping right hand.
Fist lands a jab.
A jab lands there for Fist.
Big Fist is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gately on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Fist bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Gately rushes Fist and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Gately leaning against his opponent.
Gately putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Fist in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gately keeping moving, preventing Fist from controlling successfully.
Fist looking to sit in guard and control but Gately gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Gately has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Fist is looking to stand back up but Gately counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Fist.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gately in particular looking to stall.
Paddy Gately has got the better of the ground game so far.

Gately stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Fist to get to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Nice takedown defense from Fist. No joy for Gately on that attempt.
Gately fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Fist comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Gately throws a left and a right that both miss
and Gately takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Fist lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Gately tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fist sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gately somewhat.
Fist digs a good body shot into Gately's ribs.

And that's the end of the fight!
Big Fist showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Fist, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
