PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between BJ Pinn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donnie McLeftout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pinn comes to the cage accompanied by Hawaiien Nation. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pinn staying out of range there.
A combination from Pinn does no damage.
McLeftout is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Pinn stuffs the takedown attempt from McLeftout. McLeftout gets slowly back to his feet.

Pinn rushes McLeftout and presses him up against the cage.

McLeftout decides to pull guard.
McLeftout is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pinn is controlling him.

McLeftout escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pinn gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
McLeftout utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
McLeftout looking to control but Pinn passes into half guard.

Pinn is sneakily working for an arm triangle but McLeftout sees it coming and defends easily.
McLeftout is looking to control Pinn's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can McLeftout avoid being mounted?

McLeftout is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Pinn throwing shots but McLeftout is blocking nicely.

Pinn escapes and gets back to his feet.
Pinn dodges the punch combination from McLeftout.
McLeftout has a takedown stuffed.

Pinn bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Pinn wants to control but McLeftout is keeping him busy.

Pinn wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McLeftout, who protects the arm well.

McLeftout is being controlled here.

Pinn goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, McLeftout rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Pinn's guard! Nice work there by McLeftout!
Pinn is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Pinn working for a triangle but McLeftout defends it easily.
Pinn is breathing heavily.
McLeftout trying to control the position from guard on top but Pinn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
McLeftout might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Pinn kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
McLeftout trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
McLeftout trying to control but Pinn is working from the bottom.
Pinn looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but McLeftout puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Pinn has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McLeftout is working away from the top position though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
McLeftout misses with a takedown

and Pinn decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in McLeftout's guard.
BJ Pinn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Donnie McLeftout.
Pinn stands and throws McLeftout's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Pinn working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Pinn throws a strike aimed at the side of McLeftout's head but McLeftout avoids it well.
McLeftout can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McLeftout sneaks back into half guard.
McLeftout is looking to control Pinn's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can McLeftout avoid being mounted?
McLeftout is refusing to be controlled, as Pinn sits in half guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

McLeftout tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Pinn drops to a knee looking for a takedown but McLeftout gets the underhooks and prevents it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

so Pinn counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McLeftout looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Pinn with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Pinn is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Pinn drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pinn jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

McLeftout is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
McLeftout looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Pinn gets to his feet. McLeftout looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Pinn shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Pinn wants to control the pace but McLeftout is squirming around nicely.
McLeftout tries to lock up and control but Pinn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

McLeftout manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Pinn is looking to take a break and control but McLeftout is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
McLeftout is trying to maintain the position but Pinn is very close to passing his half guard.
Pinn is trying to control. McLeftout wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Pinn prevents McLeftout from improving his position.
BJ Pinn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

McLeftout throws a half hearted mid kick.
Pinn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Pinn scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Donnie McLeftout seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pinn scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Pinn lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Pinn works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

and McLeftout counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Pinn fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
McLeftout tries to clinch there but Pinn circles away.

McLeftout takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Pinn pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pinn decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Pinn dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on McLeftout. That did some damage!

Pinn closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Pinn works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Pinn gets to mount! McLeftout was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Pinn is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but McLeftout is surviving well by controlling Pinn's body position as best he can.
Pinn looking to control but McLeftout is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
A nice elbow there by Pinn.
Pinn thowing shots but they're missing.
McLeftout is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Pinn lands a heavy elbow.

Pinn is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, McLeftout has managed to escape the submission attempt.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Pinn is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because McLeftout is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

McLeftout tries to hold on but Pinn pushes him away.
BJ Pinn is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Pinn has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
