PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bozo Susec (ranked 24647 p4p, 596 weight class) and Gangster Keith (ranked 24294 p4p, 611 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Keith's choice of entrance music: Gangster's Paradise. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bozo Susec!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gangster Keith!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Susec goes for a double leg but Keith avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Keith continues to drive forward.
No luck for Susec with that takedown attempt.

Keith rushes Susec and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Susec's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Keith has had enough of the clinch but Susec keeps him there for the moment.
Susec wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Keith breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Keith stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Keith wants it to stay on the feet.
Keith doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bozo Susec. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Keith throws a body punch but Susec moves out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Susec. Keith does a little dance to reset his feet.

Susec clinches with his opponent.
Susec jumps guard but Keith turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Keith ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Keith no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Susec wants to control from the top but Keith keeps moving.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Keith can do anything to dispel that myth.
Keith looking to hit a scissor sweep but Susec is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Keith has his foot on Susec's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Susec works his way back into a safe position though.

Susec gets to his feet - Keith follows without any prompting.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Keith scores with a takedown into Susec's guard.
Keith working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Susec has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Keith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Keith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Susec wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Susec looking for subs off his back but Keith has passed one foot through into half guard.

Susec is trying to control but can't.
Susec manages to get to full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Keith stays in close to Susec's body and controls the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Keith is in close to Susec's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Susec is controlling Keith's posture.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gangster Keith dominated that round.

Nice takedown defense from Susec. No joy for Keith on that attempt.

and Keith counters by moving into the clinch.
Susec wants to break the clinch but can't.
Keith using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Susec has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Keith misses with a punch to the body.
A frustrated look appears on Keith's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Susec manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Keith trying to stand up but can't free himself from Susec's guard.
Keith is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Susec is trying to control the position but Keith postures up.

Keith postures up and lands a big shot to Susec's brow.
Susec is pulling down on Keith's head. It's preventing any offense from Keith, at least for the moment.
Keith slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Susec looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Susec closes this distance looking for a takedown but Keith circles away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Susec tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Keith decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Susec's guard.
Susec tries to strike from the bottom.
Keith wanted to stand there but Susec had control of the position.
Susec throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Keith stays in close to Susec's body and controls the position.

Susec looking for subs off his back but Keith has passed one foot through into half guard.
Susec is looking to improve his position.

Keith is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Susec sees it coming and defends easily.

Susec has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Keith is working away from the top position though.
Gangster Keith has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Keith is taking a breather. Susec says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Susec shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bozo Susec. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Keith throws a head kick that misses.
Susec fails with the takedown.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Keith looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Susec pushes Keith off but Keith dives into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gangster Keith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Susec shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Keith defends it nicely.

Keith misses with a hook to the ribs.

Keith jumps guard and drags Susec to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Keith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Keith seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Keith looking for a guillotine here but Susec defends easily.
Keith has his hands on Susec's head, controlling the position.
Susec wants to stand and escape but instead Keith has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Susec is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Keith has gone for a leg lock! Susec slips out almost immediately though and dives into Keith's guard.

Susec stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Keith swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Keith has a closed guard, preventing Susec from standing up.
Susec trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Susec trying to control the position from guard on top but Keith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Keith seems keen to control Susec's posture.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Keith gets in close and instigates a clinch.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Susec's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Susec fails to land with a series of punches.
Susec fails with the takedown.
Keith leaves Susec with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bozo Susec. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Keith is looking for the big counter here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Keith pushes Susec up against the cage in a clinch.

Keith tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Susec just stands there and leans against the cage.

Keith lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Bozo Susec has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gangster Keith is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Keith takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gangster Keith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Keith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
