PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between cody snowman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Esai Maeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Maeda misses its intended target.

snowman feints and as Maeda raises his hands in defense, snowman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Maeda is pulling down on snowman's head. It's preventing any offense from snowman, at least for the moment.

Maeda looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
snowman stopping the sweep attempt from Maeda.
snowman is looking to work some ground and pound but Maeda has wrist control.
snowman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maeda swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Maeda looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Maeda lands a decent punch to the body there.

Maeda working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. snowman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. snowman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Maeda is pulling down on snowman's head. It's preventing any offense from snowman, at least for the moment.

Maeda has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but snowman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
snowman loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Maeda looking for a guillotine here but snowman defends easily.
Maeda working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from snowman.
snowman is looking to stand up but Maeda won't let him.
Maeda not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Maeda preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
snowman trying to control the position from guard on top but Maeda is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
snowman tries to land a front kick but Maeda steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Maeda pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
snowman keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Maeda.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Maeda throws a combination but it was largely blocked by snowman.
Maeda looks gassed!
snowman misses with a jab, cross combination.
snowman is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - snowman looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
snowman tries to clinch up but Maeda circles away and keeps his distance.
Maeda takes a swing at snowman's ribcage but misses.
Maeda throws out a loose jab but snowman uses good head movement to avoid it.
Maeda misses with a takedown attempt - snowman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
snowman is looking to clinch.

snowman gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Maeda pulls guard successfully.
snowman wants to pass the guard but Maeda is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maeda avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as snowman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Maeda pulls snowman in close to his closed guard and prevents snowman from doing any damage or advancing position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
snowman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Maeda is trying to control the position from the bottom.

snowman stands and steps away. Maeda gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Maeda stuffs the takedown.

Maeda throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
snowman is looking to clinch.
Maeda throws a hook but snowman blocks it.
Maeda lands with an uppercut that bounces snowman off the cage and back into rage.
Maeda misses with a combination

and snowman counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by snowman.
snowman wants a takedown but no success here.

Maeda jumps guard and drags snowman to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Maeda has his feet on snowman's thighs here. He's pushed snowman off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! snowman screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
