PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Rumbaoa (ranked 4117 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karaku Neko (ranked 4696 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bryan Rumbaoa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Karaku Neko!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Neko shoots and misses
and Rumbaoa cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Rumbaoa circles away from the clinch attempt.
Neko misses with a takedown attempt
and Rumbaoa counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Neko looks to land a combination. Rumbaoa sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Rumbaoa throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
A punch combination from Neko misses.
Rumbaoa drops down looking for a counter takedown but Neko sprawls and moves away.
Neko moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Rumbaoa shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Neko eats them both and turns towards Rumbaoa to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Neko avoids a punch combination nicely.
Neko drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Rumbaoa defends it well.
Karaku Neko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Rumbaoa makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Neko is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Rumbaoa half committed to a counter leg kick.
Neko takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Neko changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rumbaoa tries to avoid it but Neko manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rumbaoa to the ground. Rumbaoa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bryan Rumbaoa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Karaku Neko.
Neko takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Rumbaoa avoids a punch combination nicely.
Rumbaoa throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Neko stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Rumbaoa.

Rumbaoa landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Rumbaoa's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Neko misses with a few strikes there.
Rumbaoa changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Neko doesn't succeed with the takedown
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Neko closes the distance looking to clinch
and Rumbaoa makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Neko closes the distance and clinches up with Rumbaoa, looking for a takedown. Neko pushes Rumbaoa against the cage but Rumbaoa circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Rumbaoa counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
The fight stays on the outside here - Neko looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Neko drops down looking for an ankle pick but Rumbaoa pulls his leg out and moves away.

enabling Rumbaoa to counter with a crisp jab.
Neko takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Rumbaoa lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Neko pivots, looking for a leg kick but Rumbaoa is out of range and Neko settles back down.
It looked like Rumbaoa was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Neko.
Neko fails with the takedown
and Rumbaoa counters with a nice low kick that buckles Neko's knee momentarily.
A cross from Rumbaoa lands.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Neko tries to clinch but fails miserably
enabling Rumbaoa to counter with a crisp jab.
A right-left combo lands from Rumbaoa.
Rumbaoa scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Neko with a poor takedown
and Rumbaoa counters with a left and a right that stings Neko.
Rumbaoa moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Neko throws a right and a left that Rumbaoa avoids nicely.
Rumbaoa keeps the fight on the outside.
Rumbaoa tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Neko manages to circle out of the way.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rumbaoa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rumbaoa holds on and takes a little breather.

Neko with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rumbaoa keeping moving, preventing Neko from controlling successfully.
Rumbaoa seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Neko is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Rumbaoa wants to get back to his feet but Neko is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Neko's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Rumbaoa is trying to trip Neko. He has hold of a leg but Neko is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Rumbaoa persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Neko looking to control but Rumbaoa passes into half guard.
Well, if Rumbaoa is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Rumbaoa wants to pass to mount but Neko is defending the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Neko lands a couple of sideways elbows.
Neko tries to roll over but Rumbaoa keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Neko gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Rumbaoa counters with a one-two to the body.
Neko wants to clinch up but Rumbaoa keeps it at a distance.
It looked like Rumbaoa was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Bryan Rumbaoa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Neko shoots and misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Rumbaoa drives through and clinches with Neko against the cage.
Rumbaoa stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
A bit of stalling here from Neko.

Rumbaoa has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Neko clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Rumbaoa has the hooks in. Neko is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Rumbaoa is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Neko wants to escape the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Neko just trying to survive but Rumbaoa is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Rumbaoa controlling well, preventing Neko from escaping the position.
Rumbaoa trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Neko doesn't escape.
Neko tries to roll but Rumbaoa sticks to his back.
Neko takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Rumbaoa just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
I really don't envy Neko right now.
Neko is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rumbaoa controls the action.
You can see the frustration on Neko's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Rumbaoa is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Rumbaoa has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Karaku Neko has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bryan Rumbaoa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well Rumbaoa has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
